Harmful alien plant species removed by SANParks Honorary Rangers
The biodiversity of the Kruger National Park (KNP) faces a serious threat from invasive alien plant species that are not indigenous to the region and have been introduced either intentionally or accidentally. These plants, also referred to as exotic, non-native, or foreign species, include well-known invaders such as lantana (Lantana camara), paraffin weed (Chromolaena odorata), queen of the night cactus (Cereus jamacaru), prickly pear (Opuntia spp.), famine weed (Parthenium hysterophorus), pompom weed (Campuloclinium macrocephalum), Mauritius thorn (Caesalpinia decapetala) and slender potato creeper (Solanum seaforthianum.) ALSO READ: Youth Forum plants indigenous trees in White River To combat this, the SANParks Honorary Rangers (SHR) in the Lowveld region co-ordinate regular hack duties that are volunteer-driven operations focused on removing these plants from affected areas in the park. The hack operations are physically demanding and form a continuous part of conservation efforts. Amelda Obermeyer, the SHR hack co-ordinator in the Lowveld region, says: 'We employ several methods for invasive plant removal, including mechanical control, which involves physically cutting or uprooting the plants, often followed by the application of approved herbicides to prevent regrowth. With biological control, natural enemies such as the cochineal insect (Dactylopius opuntiae), which targets specific plant species like the prickly pear and queen of the night, are used.' In May 2025, the team had a successful hack at Nkambeni Safari Camp and Mdluli Safari Lodge. A total of 14 dedicated volunteers from six different SHR regions took part. During this effort, over 2 000 lantana plants and 600 paraffin weed plants were eradicated. Events like the upcoming open-air performance by the renowned Ndlovu Youth Choir, under the stars in the Kruger National Park, are essential for fundraising. ALSO READ: Experience the magic of Ndlovu Youth Choir under the stars at Kruger Concert for Conservation The event on June 13 promises to be an unforgettable evening. There are limited exclusive overnight glamping packages available at Nkambeni Safari Camp. The cost is R2 550 per person sharing and R2 950 per single person, which includes bed and breakfast, concert tickets with a harvest table and a glass of wine, a return shuttle with a game drive experience and conservation fees. SHR Super Hair Removal vs Traditional Laser Hair Removal: What You Need to Know
Hair removal has evolved rapidly in recent years, with groundbreaking technologies offering longer-lasting, more comfortable results. Among these innovations, SHR (Super Hair Removal) has gained attention for being safer, faster, and more effective for a wide range of skin tones. But how exactly does it differ from traditional laser hair removal? In this guide, we'll compare SHR Super Hair Removal vs Laser Hair Removal, explore their pros and cons, and help you determine which option is best for your skin and lifestyle. SHR, or Super Hair Removal, is an advanced form of laser hair removal that uses low fluence (energy) and rapid pulses to gradually heat the skin and destroy hair follicles over time. Rather than targeting the hair in a single powerful beam like traditional laser systems, SHR works by gently heating the dermis using IN-Motion™ technology, covering a larger area and reducing discomfort. How It Works: Repeated light pulses at a high frequency Targets hair follicles during the active growth phase Disrupts hair growth with less heat and pain Safe for all skin types, including darker tones This makes SHR Laser Hair Removal ideal for clients with sensitive skin or lower pain tolerance, and those who want a faster, more pleasant experience. Traditional laser hair removal systems—like Alexandrite or Diode lasers—use concentrated single-beam light to destroy hair at the follicle. This method is effective but often comes with: Higher discomfort or pain during treatment Limited suitability for darker skin types Slower treatment times, as each pulse covers a small area Higher risk of burns or post-treatment irritation While still effective for many clients, this method is more technique-sensitive and may require longer downtime or care post-treatment. Feature SHR Super Hair Removal Traditional Laser Hair Removal Pain Level Minimal, often described as warm or tingling Moderate to high; sharp rubber-band snap Skin Suitability All skin types, including tanned or darker skin More effective on fair skin with dark hair Speed Fast treatment with IN-Motion technology Slower; treats one pulse area at a time Safety Lower risk of burns and irritation Higher heat = increased skin sensitivity Sessions Needed 6–10 sessions for optimal results 6–8 sessions, depending on the area SHR is especially suited for: Clients with low pain tolerance People with darker or tanned skin tones Individuals wanting a faster, less aggressive treatment Those with sensitive skin prone to post-treatment inflammation At our trusted Cosmetic Studio, SHR is the preferred technology due to its comfort, reliability, and effectiveness across a wide range of skin and hair types. SHR is versatile and safe for nearly every part of the body, including: Face (upper lip, chin, cheeks) Underarms Arms and legs Bikini area and Brazilian Chest and back Each session is relatively quick, and with no downtime, you can resume your day immediately after. Although SHR is gentler on the skin, it's important to follow post-care guidelines for best results: Avoid sun exposure for 48 hours Keep the treated area clean and moisturized Avoid harsh skincare or exfoliants for a few days Use sunscreen daily to protect the skin With regular sessions, you'll notice a significant reduction in hair growth and smoother skin that lasts. For clients who value comfort, safety, and results, SHR Laser Hair Removal represents the next generation in aesthetic technology. Whether you've had unsatisfying experiences with waxing, shaving, or traditional lasers, SHR offers a superior solution backed by science and client satisfaction. Our expert team at the Cosmetic Studio is ready to guide you through a tailored treatment plan that aligns with your skin type, hair texture, and goals. NASCAR: Crew chief Rodney Childers reportedly out at Spire Motorsports after just nine races
Rodney Childers and Kevin Harvick had 37 NASCAR Cup Series wins in their time together at Stewart-Haas Racing. (Photo by Jeffrey Vest/Icon Sportswire via Getty Images) Rodney Childers' time at Spire Motorsports lasted just nine points races. According to the Athletic, the championship-winning crew chief and team have split ahead of this weekend's Cup Series race at Talladega. Childers arrived at Spire after the closure of Stewart-Haas Racing at the end of the 2024 season. Advertisement Childers teamed up with Justin Haley on Spire's No. 7 car in 2025 but they've struggled so far this season. Haley is 23rd in the standings with an average finish of 20.2 and just one top-10 finish. That came at Homestead when he finished 10th after starting 21st. Haley ranks second of the three Spire drivers in the standings. Michael McDowell is 19th and Carson Hocevar is 25th. Hocevar, who finished second at Atlanta, has the best finish of any Spire driver this season. Childers' departure comes weeks after car chief Robert "Cheddar" Smith left the team for the same position with Ty Gibbs at Joe Gibbs Racing. Smith had worked with Childers since their time at Stewart-Haas. Advertisement Childers was one of the most coveted crew chiefs ahead of the 2025 season because of his success at SHR. His drivers have won 40 races over 21 seasons, though all but three of those wins are by Kevin Harvick. The two joined forces at SHR in 2014 and immediately won five races and the championship that season. From 2018 through 2020, Harvick won 21 races and finished no lower than fifth in the points standings from 2017 through 2021. However, Harvick won just two races over his final three seasons in the Cup Series. Josh Berry replaced him at SHR in 2024 and had two top fives and four top 10s with Childers as his crew chief a season ago as SHR announced midseason that it would cease operations at the end of the year. Team co-owner Gene Haas kept one of the team's four charters and fields Cole Custer for the Haas Factory Team as the other three charters were sold to various teams.

Several former Stewart-Haas Racing members find work in NASCAR Cup Series
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — While Stewart-Haas Racing shut down after last season, it's impact remains in the NASCAR Cup Series. Stewart-Haas Racing, which was co-owned by Tony Stewart and Gene Haas, announced May 28 that it would close its shop after the 2024 season. More than 50 people who were on SHR team rosters in last year's season finale at Phoenix have moved to other Cup teams this season, based on crew rosters for Sunday's Daytona 500. (2 p.m. ET green flag on Fox). Dustin Long, Nearly half of that group has gone to new Cup teams: Haas Factory Team, which makes its debut this season with Cole Custer, has eight members who were with SHR at Phoenix last year. Front Row Motorsports' No. 4 team, which is new this year, has five members who were with SHR at Phoenix last year, including driver Noah Gragson Trackhouse Racing's No. 88 team, new this year with driver Shane van Gisbergen, has five members who were with SHR at Phoenix last year. 23XI Racing's No. 35 team, new this year with rookie Riley Herbst, has four members who were with SHR at Phoenix last year. A total of 21 Cup teams have at least one person who was a Stewart-Haas Racing crew member in last year's season-ending race at Phoenix. Gragson should benefit from having crew chief Drew Blickensderfer, engineer Dillon Silverman, interior specialist Chris Trickett and engine tuner Matthew Moeller join him at Front Row Motorsports. 'The most important part for me as a driver is having a good relationship and good communication with both the crew chief and the engineers,' said Gragson, who is scheduled to start 32nd in the Daytona 500. 'The engineers are so important these days. A lot of what we do, other than mechanical issues and getting the car to the race track, our speed is solely off the communication and relationship that you have with your engineers and your crew chief. 'That is very valuable to be able to have a year under our belt, have an experience with them. They know my tempo, my language and my cadence with things and how I communicate. Being able to be on the same page is very important to have fast race cars.' NASCAR: The drivers in new places ahead of the 2025 Cup Series season
There have been a lot of driver and team changes in NASCAR's Cup Series ahead of the 2025 season. Nearly a third of the 36 chartered teams are new in some capacity after the closure of Stewart-Haas Racing and the expansion of teams like 23XI Racing, Front Row Motorsports and Roush Fenway Keselowski Racing. Here's a look in numerical car order of the drivers in new places this season. Gragson is entering his third season in the Cup Series. He's entered each of those seasons with a different team. He lost his ride at Legacy Motor Club during the 2023 season because of a racist social media post but was hired for an open seat at Stewart-Haas Racing in 2024. However, SHR shut down at the end of last season. Front Row added Gragson as it expanded to three cars and he'll look to build off a 2024 season that included seven top-10 finishes and an average finish of 19.6. Dillon is back full-time in the Cup Series after he raced part-time in 2024. In his last full-time season in 2023, Dillon was 32nd in points and didn't record a top-10 finish. Over 245 races, he has two top fives and seven top 10s. 2023 was also Allmendinger's last full-time season in the Cup Series. He's bounced back and forth between Cup and the Xfinity Series for Kaulig Racing and has won two Cup Series races and 16 Xfinity Series races since joining the team. Kaulig would be smart to ensure that Allmendinger has the best car possible for road course races. Briscoe takes over for Martin Truex Jr. at Joe Gibbs Racing after four seasons with Stewart-Haas Racing. He won in 2022 and finished ninth in the standings. Last season, he won the regular-season finale at Darlington to get into playoffs. He ultimately finished 14th. At JGR, Briscoe is now with a team that should be capable of winning every single week unless the bizarre mistakes and underperformance that plagued Truex in his final seasons somehow carry over. Another driver left without a ride because of SHR's closure, Berry landed with the Wood Brothers after they moved on from Harrison Burton. You could do far worse than picking Berry as a playoff newcomer, too. His rookie season in the Cup Series last year was a bit of a roller coaster, but don't forget that he had a top five and three top 10s over eight races as a sub at Hendrick Motorsports in 2023. Herbst moves up from the Xfinity Series as 23XI expands to three cars. Herbst failed to win in any of his first three full-time seasons in the Xfinity Series before winning once in 2023 and twice in 2024. It's fair to wonder what his Cup Series learning curve will be after he was consistently outrun by his teammates at JGR and SHR over those five seasons. Smith is back for his second stint at Front Row Racing. The 2022 Truck Series champ got eight Cup Series starts with the team before signing with Trackhouse and racing at Spire in 2024. He had an absolutely miserable start to the season but there were signs of life in the second half with two top fives and four top-10 finishes. The Haas Factory Team is using one of the charters leftover from Stewart-Haas Racing. Custer, the son of former SHR exec and current HFT team president Joe Custer, is back for his second Cup Series run after three seasons between 2020 and 2022. He won a race in 2020 and then won the 2023 Xfinity Series title before finishing second a year ago. Ware started 67 Cup Series races over the 2021 and 2022 seasons with one top 10. He was arrested on assault charges against his ex-girlfriend in April of 2023, though the charges were dismissed after neither party cooperated with prosecutors. He was reinstated in late 2023 and raced in nine races a season ago. Preece enters his sixth full season in the Cup Series still looking for his first win. He spent the last two seasons at Stewart-Haas Racing and scored two top-five finishes and seven top 10s. Moving to RFK should be an upgrade for Preece, but there may be some early growing pains as the team expands to a third full-time car for the first time since 2016. McDowell moves from Front Row to Spire after winning two races over the past four seasons. One of this victories was the 2021 Daytona 500 after the late crash that took out then-Penske teammates Brad Keselowski and Joey Logano and he won at the Indianapolis road course in 2023. A season ago, McDowell had two top fives and seven top 10s while finishing 23rd in the points standings. Can he match that output in his first season at Spire? The former Australian Supercars champ won his first Cup start in 2023 when he got a win at the Chicago street race. He ran full-time in the Xfinity Series in 2024 and won three road and street course races on the way to a 12th-place finish in the standings. van Gisbergen will probably be a mid-pack driver on most ovals, but he's a serious threat to win at Chicago or another road course.
