Mumbai: Two including Nigerian national held with cocaine worth Rs 50 lakhs
MUMBAI: In a controlled operation, the SIIB of Customs arrested two individuals, including a Nigerian national, who ordered half a kilogram of cocaine worth Rs 50 lakhs from abroad.
During interrogation, the Indian national informed officials that the Nigerian national offered him money to order the courier using his KYC.
The SIIB Customs at Cargo intercepted a parcel addressed to Arvind Kumar, declaring the goods as artificial flowers and cards. The consignee's address was on Military Road in Andheri. Upon opening the parcel, they discovered a white powder purported to be cocaine. After the field test kit confirmed it was cocaine, the officials formed a team in coordination with a postal official.
Officials stated that a postman called Arvind and informed him to collect the parcel. When Arvind arrived with his KYC to collect the parcel, the officials first made him pay the nominal customs duty. As soon as he accepted the dummy parcel, Arvind Kumar was placed under arrest.
During sustained interrogation, Arvind admitted that he was aware the parcel in his name contained drugs. He revealed that a Nigerian national named Daniel was waiting outside the post office to collect the parcel.
A team then apprehended Daniel.
Arvind further explained that Daniel had promised him a substantial sum of money if his KYC was used to smuggle the contraband. Arvind hails from Mohali in Punjab, and Daniel had travelled all the way to Punjab to persuade him to order this parcel.
Daniel informed officials that he works for a garment factory in Tripura, where he buys innerwear products and exports them to his country. Officials are investigating whether there are any pending cases of drug smuggling against Daniel.
