SK hynix Develops UFS 4.1 Solution Based on 321-High NAND

SEOUL, South Korea, May 22, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- SK hynix Inc. (or "the company", announced today that it has developed UFS 4.1 solution product adopting the world's highest 321-layer 1Tb triple level cell 4D NAND flash for mobile applications. The development comes amid increasing requirements for high performance and low power of a NAND solution product to ensure a stable operation of on-device AI. The company expects the UFS 4.1 product, optimized for AI workload, to help enhance its memory leadership in the flagship smartphone markets. With an increase in demand for on-device AI leading to greater importance of the balance between computation capabilities and battery efficiency of a device, the mobile market is now requiring thinness and low power from a mobile device. The latest product comes with a 7% improvement in power efficiency, compared with the previous generation based on 238-high NAND and a slimmer 0.85mm thickness, down from 1mm before, to fit into a ultra-slim smartphone. The product also supports data transfer speed of 4300MB/s, the fastest sequential read* for a fourth-generation of UFS, while providing the best-in-class performance by also improving random read and write speed**, critical for multitasking, by 15% and 40%, respectively. Immediate provision of the required data for on-device AI and faster running speed and the responsivity of an application are expected to enhance user experience. SK hynix plans to win customer qualification within the year and ship in volume from the first quarter of next year. The product will be provided in two capacity types – 512GB and 1TB. Ahn Hyun, President and Chief Development Officer, said that SK hynix plans to complete development of the 321-high 4D NAND-based SSD for both consumers and data centers within the year. "We are on track to expand our position as a full-stack AI memory provider in the NAND space by building a product portfolio with AI technological edge." About SK hynix Inc. SK hynix Inc., headquartered in Korea, is the world's top tier semiconductor supplier offering Dynamic Random Access Memory chips ("DRAM") and flash memory chips ("NAND flash") for a wide range of distinguished customers globally. The Company's shares are traded on the Korea Exchange, and the Global Depository shares are listed on the Luxembourg Stock Exchange. Further information about SK hynix is available at

SK hynix develops new flash storage chip using 321-layer NAND

SK hynix Inc. said Thursday it has developed a mobile universal flash storage chip based on the world's highest 321-layer 1 terabit NAND flash technology, delivering faster, more power-efficient data processing tailored for on-device artificial intelligence. The new UFS 4.1 product offers a 7 percent improvement in power efficiency compared with the previous generation, which used 238-layer NAND, according to SK hynix. At just 0.85 millimeter thick, slimmer than the previous 1-mm model, the chip is designed to fit into ultra-slim smartphones. It supports sequential read speeds of 4,300 megabytes per second, the fastest for any fourth-generation UFS product to date. In addition, it delivers best-in-class performance with random read and write speeds improved by 15 percent and 40 percent, respectively. SK hynix said the new UFS 4.1 will meet growing market demands for high performance and low power consumption in NAND solutions, ensuring stable operation for AI-powered mobile devices. "We are on track to expand our position as a full-stack AI memory provider in the NAND space by building a product portfolio with an AI technological edge," said Ahn Hyun, chief development officer at SK hynix. SK hynix Announces 1Q25 Financial Results

SEOUL, South Korea, April 24, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- SK hynix Inc. (or "the company", announced today that it recorded 17.6391 trillion won in revenues, 7.4405 trillion won in operating profit (with an operating margin of 42%), and 8.1082 trillion won in net profit (with a net margin of 46%) in the first quarter this year. Both revenues and operating profit are the 2nd highest records following last quarter when the company achieved its best quarterly results. Operating margin improved by 1%p compared to the previous quarter to 42%, resulting in 8th consecutive quarterly growth. SK hynix explained that memory market ramped up faster than expected due to competition to develop AI systems and inventory accumulation demand. The company responded to the demand with an expansion in sales of high value-added products such as 12-layer HBM3E and DDR5. The company believes the strong financial results despite a low seasonality reflect its outstanding competitiveness compared to the past. The company plans to focus on enhancing the business fundamentals to achieve distinguished financial outcome, even in times of market correction. Based on the financial result, cash and cash equivalents increased by 0.2 trillion won to 14.3 trillion won at the end of the first quarter, compared to the end of 2024, leading to an improvement in the debt and net debt ratio to 29% and 11%, respectively. SK hynix will continue to strengthen collaboration with supply chain partners to meet customer needs despite demand fluctuation amid global uncertainties. Due to the characteristics of the HBM market that supply volume is mutually agreed a year in advance, the company maintains its earlier projection that HBM demand will approximately double compared to the last year. As a result, sales of 12-layer HBM3E are expected to favorably increase to account for over 50% of total HBM3E revenues in the second quarter. In addition, the company started to supply LPCAMM2 [1], high performance memory module for AI PC, to customers in the first quarter and plans to supply SOCAMM [2], a low-power DRAM module for AI servers, when demand ramps up. For NAND, the company plans to actively respond to demand for high-capacity eSSD, while maintaining profitability-first operation with cautious approach for investment. "In compliance with the 'Capex Discipline', SK hynix will focus on products with demand feasibility and profitability to enhance investment efficiency," said Kim Woohyun, Chief Financial Officer. "As an AI memory leader, we will strengthen collaboration with partners and carry out technological innovation in efforts to continue profit growth with industry-leading competitiveness." 1Q25 Financial Results (K-IFRS) * Financial information of the earnings is based on K-IFRS * Please note that the financial results discussed herein are preliminary and speak only as of April 24, 2025. SK hynix Q1 net profit shoots up on HBM, beats market expectations

SK hynix Inc. said Thursday its first-quarter net profit more than quadrupled on rising demand for artificial intelligence chips, including high bandwidth memory, exceeding market expectations. The world's second-largest memory chipmaker said in a regulatory filing that its net income reached 8.1 trillion won ($5.7 billion) for the January-March period, up from 1.92 trillion won a year earlier. Its operating income soared 157.8 percent on-year to 7.44 trillion won for the quarter, compared with 2.88 trillion won a year ago. Revenue rose 41.9 percent to 17.63 trillion won. Both operating profit and sales marked the second-best quarterly results following the record highs in the fourth quarter of last year. The earnings exceeded market expectations. The average estimate of net profit by analysts stood at 5.48 trillion won, according to a survey by Yonhap Infomax, the financial data firm of Yonhap News Agency. SK hynix attributed the better-than-expected bottom line to strong demand for AI memory, solidifying its status as a world leader in HBM technology. "The memory market ramped up faster than expected due to competition to develop AI systems and inventory accumulation demand," SK hynix said. SK hynix said its annual HBM sales for 2025 are expected to double from those of 2024, with sales orders for 2025 already secured. Its Chief Executive Officer Kwak Noh-jung previously mentioned that the company has sold out this year's HBM production, supplying its 12-layer HBM3E product to major customers, including Nvidia Corp. Sales of 12-layer HBM3E, currently the most advanced HBM in mass production, are expected to account for over half of its total HBM3E sales in the second quarter. For the sixth-generation HBM4 chips, SK hynix plans to complete preparations for mass production by the end of this year. "SK hynix will focus on products with demand feasibility and profitability to enhance investment efficiency," Kim Woo-hyun, chief financial officer at SK hynix, said. "As an AI memory leader, we will strengthen collaboration with partners and carry out technological innovation in efforts to continue profit growth with industry-leading competitiveness." (Yonhap)
