SMEs drive growth and innovation in support of Oman Vision 2040

MUSCAT: Small and medium enterprises (SMEs) continue to play a pivotal role in advancing Oman's economic diversification agenda and realising the goals of Oman Vision 2040. The strategy prioritises the private sector, investment, and international cooperation as key enablers of an integrated economic system in which SMEs operate in synergy with larger corporate entities. This vision recognises the centrality of SMEs in stimulating economic growth, fostering innovation, generating employment opportunities, and contributing to technological development. The SMEs Development Authority affirmed that the sector remains a fundamental pillar of the national economy, providing support to major institutions while also acting as a primary engine for sustainable development. In line with these priorities, Oman achieved notable progress in the global Business Entrepreneurship Index, climbing from 11th to 8th position in 2024. The sector also recorded a business growth rate of 5.7 per cent in 2024, up from 5.4 per cent in the previous year. Official figures underscore the sector's growing contribution: a total of 145,750 small and medium enterprises are currently operating across the Sultanate. Additionally, 2,485 citizens have undergone specialised training programmes, while 400 funding approvals were issued to support business growth. Jabal Spring event to be organised as part of the rose picking harvest season

Nizwa: The Heritage and Tourism Department and the SMEs Development Authority in Al Dakhiliyah Governorate, in cooperation with Al Saqri Integrated Projects Co. will organise on Thursday Rabie Al Jabal (Jabal Spring ) event as part of the rose picking harvest season in Jabal Akhdar. The event aims to push forward the tourism activity and support the local community. It also aims to offer a unique experience to the visitors and showcase the value of the Omani rose and associated traditional industries. The programme of the event includes field visits to the company and to the rose farms at Saiq, Al Ain, Al Shareejah and Al Aqar areas to acquaint with the stages of growing rose , rose picking and the traditional methods of rose distillation and showcasing the cultural heritage in the Wilayat of Jabal Akhdar. The event also includes the tent of 'entrepreneurs and artists' , heritage souqs, pavilion for honey and Omani coffee and handworks coupled with children entertainment activities. The rose harvest (picking ) season in the Wilayat of Jabal Akhdar kicked off at the beginning of this month. The rose harvest season is one of the key annual events that attract visitors and tourists from within and outside the Sultanate of Oman. Sheikh Sulaiman Abdullah Al Kalbani, Deputy Wali of Jabal Akhdar stressed the significance of the event which comes within the continued efforts of Al Dakhiliyah Governorate and aims to boost the tourism and agriculture sectors and entrepreneurship. He said that the event also represents a platform and an opportunity for the display of the products of local craftsmen and farmers.

Rose event "Ata'a al Ward" to be held in Jabal al Akhdar from April 10

Muscat: Al Dakhiliyah Governorate, in collaboration with the SMEs Development Authority and the Ministry of Heritage and TourisM (MHT), has announced the opening of registration for the "Ata'a al Ward" event, set to take place from April 10 to 20, 2025, at the Business and Incubators Centre at al Jabal al Akhdar The event will feature a variety of activities, including live demonstrations of rose product manufacturing and distillation, interactive theatrical performances, traditional cuisine, and a marketing exhibition. Additionally, a photography competition and business consultations for entrepreneurs will be held. Targeting small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), productive families, and those interested in the rose season and its products, the event aims to promote the cultural and economic significance of al Jabal al Akhdar's renowned roses. Gulf Tkatuf exhibition sees participation from Gulf Countries

The third edition of the Gulf Tkatuf Exhibition in collaboration with strategic partner SMEs Development Authority began on Thursday morning with the inaugural ceremony held under the patronage of Dr Said bin Mohammed Al Saqri, Minister of Economy at Fraser Suites, Muscat, in the presence of Ambassador Dr Jumaa bin Ahmed al Kaabi, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Bahrain, and the Head of Economic Relations at the Embassy of the United Arab Emirates, Masoud Al-Mazrouei, along with representatives from participating Gulf countries and sponsors. Speaking to the Observer, the minister said, exhibitions such as these are important to promote SMEs. 'These kinds of exhibitions are important to promote products and services of small and medium enterprises and Tkatuf has been successfully doing so for three years now, and even before that they have been supporting SMEs. SMEs play a significant role in all economies. In some economies, the SMEs contribute 90% of the GDP. They are the most important contributors to job creation in certain economies. So it is critical to support them,' said the minister of economy. The three-day exhibition is organised by l Links for social Initiatives, specialized in event management, under the personal supervision of Her Highness Sayyida Hujaija Jaifer Al Said. The aim of the exhibition is to support small and medium enterprises in promoting their products and services, as well as providing an opportunity for exchanging experiences and skills in various fields, creating business opportunities among participants, and finding common collaboration methods to expand and develop their projects. "We strive in every exhibition and event to establish a continuous relationship between us and the exhibitors and participants by providing support and assistance services. We aim to provide community service in every endeavor,' she said. The exhibition features 200 Omani projects with accredited trademarks from within the Sultanate of Oman, as well as projects from various Gulf countries, reflecting their belief in the purchasing power of the local market and their engagement with Omani youth on developmental ideas in the field of entrepreneurship. According to the organizers, 'One of the main goals of this exhibition is to establish partnerships and collaboration pathways with institutions that have related orientations or fields to achieve impact and drive change for the participating projects.' 'This initiative is in line with the keen interest of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tariq in supporting small and medium enterprises, which are considered the primary and essential drivers of the national economy,' Sayyida Hujaija noted. 'What's new in this exhibition is that we have provided the opportunity for a number of students, in coordination with Oman Tourism College, to train and qualify students in the field of event management and coordination operations," she explained.
