Teen girl survives after being pinned under Proton Exora
SUNGAI PETANI: A Form Five student miraculously survived after she was pinned underneath a Proton Exora following a crash between her motorcycle and the multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) at Jalan Permatang Kelompang, Kota Kuala Muda, yesterday.
Kuala Muda police chief Assistant Commissioner Hanyan Ramlan said the 6.40pm incident occurred when the SMK Kota Kuala Muda student was riding home on a Yamaha 135LC motorcycle with her schoolmate, who is also in Form Five.
"Based on the initial investigation, the 71-year-old Proton Exora driver was crossing the road when the motorcycle collided with the front side of the MPV.
"The motorcyclist sustained injuries to her face, arms and left leg, while her pillion rider suffered injuries to her face, body and arms.
"Both are receiving treatment in the Yellow Zone of Sultan Abdul Halim Hospital," he said in a statement.
Hanyan said investigations revealed that the crash was caused by the driver's negligence.
A video showing villagers scrambling to lift the MPV — with the help of a backhoe — went viral on social media platforms today.
In the over three-minute video, a man is heard updating a 999 emergency hotline responder from the scene.
The backhoe eventually managed to lift the MPV, allowing villagers to pull the girl to safety.
After briefly lying on the ground, the girl was seen getting up and walking over to her pillion rider.
The girls were first rushed to a clinic before being transferred to the hospital.
