Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College preparing for 191st commencement ceremonies
SAINT MARY OF THE WOODS, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College (SMWC) is preparing for its 191st Commencement, scheduled to take place on Saturday, May 10, at the Hamilton Arena within the Jeanne Knoerle Sports and Recreation Center. The day will feature two distinct ceremonies to honor the achievements of both campus undergraduate students and those enrolled in Woods Online and graduate programs. The morning ceremony for campus undergraduate students will begin at 10 a.m., with doors opening to guests at 9:30 a.m. Jonathan Hayden, a distinguished student from Linton, Indiana, will deliver the student address. Hayden will be receiving his Bachelor of Arts in Theology. This ceremony will celebrate the largest campus graduating class in the history of SMWC. A baccalaureate service will be held at 1 p.m. in the Church of the Immaculate Conception, providing a moment of reflection and gratitude for the graduates. The afternoon ceremony will begin at 3 p.m., with doors opening at 2:30 p.m. Eleni Miller, RN, BSN, will address the graduates as the student speaker. Miller will be receiving her Master of Science in Nursing. This ceremony will mark a historic milestone for SMWC, as the first-ever doctoral degrees and hoods will be awarded. Pomeroys win first ever NAIA Tournament game
DALTON, GA. (WTWO/WAWV) — The Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College men's basketball team made history on Friday, March 14, with a thrilling 74-67 victory over Dalton State (Ga.) in the opening round of the NAIA National Tournament. The win marks the first-ever NAIA National Tournament victory in any sport for SMWC and secures a spot in the Round of 32. The Pomeroys, now 27-5 on the season, displayed outstanding team play, overcoming a tough Dalton State squad to advance to the next stage of the tournament. This victory also marks the first win by a Vigo County team in the NAIA National Tournament since Indiana State's 1963 victory over Parsons. SMWC's victory over Dalton State also marks the Pomeroys' second all-time appearance in the NAIA National Tournament, with their previous appearance in 2021. With the win, SMWC advances to the Round of 32, where they will face either No. 16 Ave Maria (Fla.) or Xavier (La.) on Saturday, March 15 at 7 p.m. ET at Bandy Gym in Dalton, Ga. Applications now open for SMWC summer camp
Applications are now open for Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College's C.A.M.P., which runs from June 9 through 13. C.A.M.P. — Challenging Ambitions and Maximizing Potential — is made possible by a grant from Lily Endowment Inc., through its Indiana Youth Programs on Campus initiative. C.A.M.P. at The Woods is a one-week daily campus program at SMWC for rising high school freshmen, sophomores, juniors or seniors. Applications for C.A.M.P. at The Woods are due by March 14. There are four course options for students who are admitted to the program. Each program can have up to 10 students. The Go Global classes have a study abroad component, which will take place in the fall. Each student who completes their C.A.M.P course will earn two college credits. The course options are: • Go Global - GL 150: Leaders of Positive Change students will be traveling abroad to the Galapagos Islands, Ecuador • Go Global - EQ 150: Introduction to Equine Industry students will be traveling to Ireland • Go Global - NU 150: Nurses for the Future students will be traveling to London, England • ED 150: STEM Applications in the Elementary Classroom An informational session will be held from 6 to 7 p.m. Feb. 27 in the Woods Student Center, located in the Rooney Center.
