Just when ARMYs thought they'd made it through the final stretch of BTS's military hiatus, V, aka Kim Taehyung, decided to break the internet. Late night, V dropped a surprise on his Instagram Stories—photos with none other than K-drama heartthrob Song Kang. The timing? Just a few hours before his official discharge from military service on June 10.
BTS' V's surprise no one saw coming
In the first photo, V and Song Kang are seen in their workout gear, standing in front of a mirror at the gym, looking absolutely ripped in matching military-style camouflage pants and black tank tops. One is casually seated, flexing in the mirror, while the other stands tall with bulging arms and dog tags. Yep, fans were not prepared.
Then came the adorable photo booth video. Still in uniform, the duo pose for four goofy, wholesome snaps—smiling, saluting, and even throwing in a cheeky hand-heart. It's rare to see such casual, candid sides of both stars, especially while they're still serving.

This isn't the first time fans have seen V and Song Kang's gym partnership. Just last month, professional trainer Choi Hanjin posted about working with the duo (along with BTS's Jungkook), praising their quiet focus and incredible strength. 'They're strong, calm, and work hard,' he wrote. Based on these latest pics, that discipline is definitely showing.
V and RM's military countdown officially over
As of now, V is spending his final day in the military. He enlisted on December 11, 2023, and served as part of the Special Duty Team under the Capital Defense Command, a unit known for handling elite security and protocol missions. Fans have been counting the days ever since—and it looks like V was counting too.
RM, BTS's leader, will also be discharged tomorrow, on June 11. He served in the Army's 15th Infantry Division, where he was reportedly an exemplary soldier, even selected as a platoon leader during training. Jimin and Jungkook will follow on the same day, while Suga—who has been serving as a public service worker due to health reasons, is set to complete his duties later this month.
Korea goes purple
Back home, South Korea is getting ready to welcome the boys with open arms. Cities are lighting up monuments and buildings in purple. Billboard ads and banners have popped up everywhere. Even HYBE's stock has seen a major jump, all thanks to the buzz around the group's return.
