Tiong: Empowering PwDs remains among government's top agenda
Kong (third right) leads the flag-off ceremony for the SOPMA Baton Charity Run 2025 in Bintulu. BINTULU (May 20): Empowering individuals with special needs (PwDs), including the deaf community, remains one of the main agenda of both the federal and Sarawak governments. In stating this, Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing assured the people that the government is committed to ensuring that the PwDs are not left behind, and also able enjoy a more sustainable, inclusive and prosperous life. However, the Bintulu MP pointed out that this cannot be shouldered by the government alone. 'All efforts also require strong cooperation from the NGOs (non-governmental organisations) and the private sector. 'Thus, I urge private companies in Bintulu to play an active role through contributions, sponsorships, or CSR (corporate social responsibility) initiatives that are meant to benefit the community,' he said in Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas) report. Tiong's speech was delivered by his special officer Steven Kong at the opening ceremony for 'SOPMA Baton Charity Run 2025 Bintulu Edition' last Sunday. Adding on, Tiong also gave assurance that he would always be ready to support initiatives meant to strengthen the well-being of the people, especially the special-needs community, in line with the government's goal of building a compassionate and inclusive society.
