Man arrested in deadly I-5 shooting
SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — A suspect was arrested in the 2023 killing of a 54-year-old man on Interstate 5 at State Route 905.
Dwight Rhone, 73, of San Diego, is suspected of fatally shooting and then allegedly setting on fire Bernardo Moreno, Officer Jared Grieshaber with the California Highway Patrol said in a news release Monday.
The incident occurred on Oct. 18, 2023, when officers responded to a homicide on I-5 on SR-905.
Investigators determined Moreno died from a gunshot wound before being set on fire.

On Dec. 5, 2024, Rhone was arrested and charged with murder.
Last month, Rhone was taken into federal custody and booked into the San Diego County Jail.
'I deeply appreciate the relentless dedication and professionalism of the CHP Major Crimes Unit, FBI, SDPD, and the San Diego District Attorney's Office,' said CHP Border Division Investigative Services Unit Captain Mike Vargas. 'While this arrest won't erase Mr. Moreno's family's pain, I hope it brings them some comfort knowing justice will be served.'
