Boys & Girls Club of Greater Augusta get major funding for summer camp

AUGUSTA, Ga. (WJBF)- SRP Federal Credit Union will be presenting a big check to the Boys and Girls Club of Greater Augusta to help fund its summer camp. It is for $25k, and it is funding the Oasis Club Summer Camp where it will cover everything the camp provides. The Oasis summer camp host almost fifty kids and this check helps families who couldn't afford to pay for summer camp. The VP of development for Boys and Girls Club of Greater Augusta, tells me what else this SRP check supports. 'Breakfast and lunch, as well as healthy snacks throughout the day. Any of those field trips that they want to go on. Sports and athletic programing. Any access to additional resources that kids need in order to have good mental and physical and emotional health and well-being. Academic support. Because we don't want any of our youth to suffer learning loss while school is out for the summer. So it's all of the things,' said Catherine Centre. If you would like to register you would need to call the Boys and Girls club as they do have a wait list. Today's check presentation is from 1-2pm at the Oasis VIP Great Futures Academy on Deans Bridge 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. Clean Up Aiken to pick up trash on Sudlow Lake Road

AIKEN COUNTY, Sc. (WJBF)- A non-profit group called 'Clean Up Aiken' is picking up trash along a 4 and a half mile stretch of roadway. This cleanup could possibly take up to 2 hours. SRP Federal Credit Union and the Augusta Greenjackets organizations will work alongside Clean Up Aiken today. They will clean the roads that are between US 78 to Ascauga Lake Road. They are working hard to make roads look nice for the Masters and more importantly, making the roads many of you drive on look good. One co-director of Clean Up Aiken tells me why they chose this road. 'There's no shortage of littered roads in Aiken County, that's for sure. We choose ones typically that are close to where our sponsors, organization is located because it's sort of their neighborhood, if you will, and Sudlow has, for whatever reason, awful lot of litter. And it isn't being cleaned up currently by any other organization. So it's one that fits very nicely for our model,' said Kic Young. And since they have been cleaning a lot of Aiken County roads for quite some time, the other co-director said they have made an impact in the county. 'We've gotten a lot of notoriety from doing this. People in our county know who we are. And people come to us now and ask us to clean up the roads and to facilitate a clean up for them. And the impact is really overall a cleaner county and people see it,' said Jerry Lang. To register just click here. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. Georgia Kids Win Big: GCFLF and SRP Credit Union Create Financial Futures

Georgia's students are gaining financial independence through an innovative collaboration. 200 children will receive financial literacy tools and their own bank accounts, with $5,000 in deposits distributed among participants. SRP Federal Credit Union and the Global Children's Financial Literacy Foundation (GCFLF) have teamed-up for a financial wellness book drive on April 17 and 18 in Waynesboro and Augusta. 'By giving kids a stake in their financial future, we're teaching concepts and creating opportunities for them to see what's possible,' says Prince Dykes, founder of GCFLF. In similar programs, students reported feeling more confident about saving and investing, with kids saying they felt like they could really manage their money. Students will receive complimentary editions of the Wesley Learns financial literacy series courtesy of SRP. The collaboration provides real-world financial experience that builds confidence and inspires lifelong economic success. Its goal is to break poverty cycles, foster wealth, and empower families with lasting opportunities. 'SRP Federal Credit Union is committed to fostering financial literacy across all age groups through various programs. We're especially glad to partner with GCFLF on this project,' says Grace Helms, Assistant Vice President of Community Development. Georgia ranks 11th in the U.S. for millionaire households. This program ensures local children gain the knowledge and resources to build wealth and strengthen their community's economic future. Reaching New Cities - Expanding the Impact Starting in Georgia, the initiative will expand nationwide through an April book drive. It plans to donate 2,500 books and create first-time shareholders in five cities: Atlanta, Denver, New York City, Baltimore, and Washington, D.C. As the program grows, GCFLF seeks new partners to sponsor book drives and teach personal finance basics.
