Highway 3 east of Creston remains closed following early morning multi-vehicle crash
Highway 3 remains closed in both directions east of Creston, B.C., following a serious crash early Wednesday morning.
RCMP say the collision occurred around 6:30 a.m., roughly one kilometre east of Canyon-Lister Road.
"Emergency crews will be remaining at the scene for most of today, with a full closure of Highway 3 in effect," said RCMP Cpl. James Grandy in a statement.
The crash happened near the 4100 block of Highway 3 and has kept the route closed for nearly 12 hours. The road had briefly reopened to single-lane alternating traffic, but DriveBC says it was closed again later in the day. As of Wednesday evening, the section between Canyon-Lister Road and Lakeview Arrow Creek Road remains fully closed.
No detour was available for several hours, but DriveBC says a detour is now available for light vehicles via Lakeview Arrow Creek Road, five kilometres east of Creston, but commercial vehicles are not permitted.
B.C. Emergency Health Services says four people were injured in the crash. One patient was flown to hospital in serious condition by STARS ambulance.
Three patients were transported by ground ambulance to hospital in serious condition. They were subsequently transported by air ambulance for further care," said Brian Twaites, a paramedic public information officer.
Paramedics responded to the scene with five ambulances, a paramedic response unit, and three air ambulances.
Details on the number of vehicles involved or the cause of the crash have not been released.
