'Outlander' Star Sam Heughan Talks the 'Amazing' Fraser Clan Old and New (Exclusive) originally appeared on Parade. The Fraser clan will soon see the passing of the tartan from one generation to the next when the Outlander: Blood of My Blood prequel premieres on STARZ on August 8. And fans of the historic Scottish world created by Diana Gabaldon in her franchise of Outlander bestselling novels will be able to watch the love story between Brian Fraser (Jamie Roy) and Ellen MacKenzie (Harriet Slater) that created Jamie Fraser (Sam Heughan) and the rest of his clan. To celebrate World Outlander Day on June 1, STARZ will release 'Outlander and Blood of My Blood: The Gathering' on its YouTube channel and on the STARZ app. The special unites cast members from both series for the first time to celebrate the Outlander journey, welcome in the new generation of Frasers, MacKenzies and Beauchamps and explore the ties that bind their stories. It features interviews with the executive producers and cast members from both series and will provide a sneak peek at the new prequel series, Outlander: Blood of My Blood ahead of its August 8 premiere, as well as a look back at the legacy of Outlander over the past 11 years. 🎬 In the exclusive clip below, members of the cast from both STARZ series were given the chance to talk about the similarities and differences between their shows. In the scene, Heughan commented, 'What an amazing extended family we have from Murtagh being [Jamie's] godfather through to Jamie's own children that he's had. But also, the people he's brought into the family, like Marsali and Fergus, are an incredible family. And what a force to be reckoned with. This is a great representation of a Scottish clan. On the one side, they're loyal and trustworthy. And on the other, who knows?' Several of the characters from the original Outlander series will be appearing in Blood of My Blood. That includes the aforementioned Brian and Ellen, as well as Jocasta MacKenzie (Ellen's sister), Dougal MacKenzie (Ellen's brother), Colum MacKenzie (Ellen's brother), and Murtagh FitzGibbons Fraser (second cousin to Brian and Jamie's future godfather). Of course, the roles have been recast with younger actors, as the story takes place prior to Jamie's birth. Jocasta will be played by Sadhbh Malin, Dougal by Sam Retford, Colum by Séamus McLean Ross, and Murtagh will be played by Rory Alexander. Blood of My Blood will be set in two different time periods. Jamie's parents met and fell in love in the early 18th-century Scottish Highlands, while Claire's parents, Julia Moriston (Hermione Corfield) and Henry Beauchamp (Jeremy Irvine), who were added to the story from the original books, met and fell in love in WWI England. Outlander fans share Blood Of My Blood speculations - will there be time travel?
Outlander: Blood of My Blood will be released this coming August, with fans eagerly awaiting further updates on what to expect from the series. Outlander fans have been left thrilled, as the air date for its highly-anticipated spin off show Blood of My Blood was finally revealed. It comes as viewers are eagerly awaiting the eigthth and final series of Outlander itself. Announcing the premier date of the prequel as August 8, the official Starz social media account on Instagram wrote, "Can true love overcome rival clans? Experience Ellen MacKenzie and Brian Fraser's story in Outlander: Blood of My Blood premiering August 8 on STARZ." Fans have eagerly been keeping an eye out for updates. Taking to Reddit one fan pondered, "I'm looking forward to Blood of My Blood but I can't help wondering how they're going to bring these two stories together. "I mean, they can't leave the two couples separated by two centuries, can they? Is time travel involved? Any thoughts or speculations would be welcome." Sharing one theory, one fan said: "I think they will be two separate storylines. These couples never meet." Another noted, "I believe I saw a shot of Claire's mother time travelled into 18th century, that is probably how they would bring the two stories together." Backing up the same theory, one fan highlighted, "There was a BTS photo on IG that looked to be Claire's mom in 18th century clothing, riding in a horse and carriage sitting next to Brian. It was quickly deleted. So, there's speculation that there will be some sort of time travel in BOB. We'll know for sure this summer." "I'm not sure two separate storylines would make any sense, especially to people who are not Outlander fans. Surely there has to be a connection between the two," questioned one fan. One person reponded, "There will be parallels but they won't come together." "Hopefully they will some sort of explanation that these are Jamie's and Claire's parents. I would assume most people who will watch are Outlander fans. JMO," voiced another. In response, they said: "You're probably right but I'll bet Starz would like to have a show that stands on its own. Also, an Outlander spinoff with no spooky time-travel stuff just seems odd." One fan said: "The prequel that Diana is writing is only about Jamie's parents and the Jacobite uprising of 1715. The show runners decided to add Claire's parents." Many of the Outlander fanbase, which is based on Diana Gabaldon's original award-winning novels, are hoping the characters bring as much on-screen energy as both Claire and Jamie Fraser did, played by Sam Heughan and Catriona Balfe. "I hope they found some actors with amazing chemistry because they will live in the shadow of the original couple's chemistry. I already feel bad for the comparisons that are to come, but I am also really excited about new material," gushed one fan. One pondered, "Have they said whether this is intended to be a mini-series/one-season wonder, or if it's open-ended and might go on for multiple seasons?," as some speculated already that it could be billed for a second series before it's even hit screens.

The show and the prequel will come together for a very special reason. Sharing some footage of cast members from both shows mingling with each other, the official Outlander page wrote: "Get ready for a family reunion like no other on World Outlander Day! "Witness the casts of #Outlander and #BloodOfMyBlood come together for the first time to welcome a new generation of Frasers, MacKenzies, and Beauchamps, and explore the ties that bind their stories. Join us LIVE June 1 at 4pm PT / 7pm ET on YouTube (link in bio). "Outlander: #BloodOfMyBlood premieres Aug 8 on STARZ. Catch up on all seasons of #Outlander on the STARZ App." In the footage, both casts sit down together and drink from quiches and share stories. Sam Heughan can also be heard saying: "A force to be reckoned with!" And after viewing the clip, fans could not contain their excitement. One penned: "Well, the cast of blood of my blood already has my heart." Another said: "The whole family together. Nothing could ever beat this." While another said: "I'm so excited for this! The best family reunion!" Another commented: "What a great gift you're giving us on World Outlander Day! I had a feeling you'd have something special planned." While one fan added: "So happy, I can't wait to meet the parents of my favorite couple Jamie and Claire Fraser! Je suis prest!" The eagerly awaited 10-part prequel drama Blood of My Blood is set to premiere on August 8 on Starz and will be available the following day, August 9, on MGM+ via Prime Video. Outlander: Blood of My Blood will delve into the romantic pasts of Jamie (Sam Heughan) and Claire's parents, with one story unfolding during World War I and another in the Scottish Highlands in the 17th century.
