Jeep unveils next-gen Compass with hybrid and electric powertrains
Jeep has officially revealed the third-generation Compass. The new Compass is built on Stellantis' STLA Medium platform and offers a range of electrified powertrains, including mild-hybrid, plug-in hybrid (PHEV), and fully electric (EV) options. The new Compass boasts a bold, boxy design with Jeep's iconic seven-slot grille, sharper edges, and X-shaped taillights connected by an illuminated Jeep logo. Inside, the SUV features a modernised cabin with a 16-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a 10-inch digital instrument cluster, and premium touches like aluminum and wooden accents. Enhanced practicality includes 55mm more legroom, a 34-liter front storage compartment, and a 550-liter boot, up 45 liters from its predecessor. Powertrain options are diverse. The mild-hybrid, powered by a 1.2-liter three-cylinder petrol engine with 48V technology, delivers 145bhp. The PHEV combines a 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine with a 125bhp electric motor for a total of 195bhp, supported by a 21kWh battery. The electric Compass offers three variants: a front-wheel-drive model with a 73kWh battery producing 213bhp (500km WLTP range), another with a 97kWh battery and 233 horsepower (650km claimed range), and a top-tier all-wheel-drive 4xe model with 375bhp, featuring a new 179bhp rear electric motor for superior off-road capability. EV models support 160kW DC fast charging, achieving a 20-80% charge in about 30 minutes. The Compass retains Jeep's off-road prowess, with up to 201mm ground clearance, a 27-degree approach angle, and a 470mm wading depth. Safety features include Level 2 autonomous driving, a 360-degree camera, and six airbags. Over-the-air updates ensure the vehicle stays current throughout its lifecycle. Jeep unveils all-new Compass with hybrid and electric powertrains
Stellantis on Tuesday removed the wraps from its new third-generation Jeep Compass. Built on the carmaker's STLA Medium platform, Jeep says this C-segment SUV challenger is designed to strike a balance between off-road capability and everyday usability. This is achieved by bespoke suspension tuning with dedicated springs, dampers and anti-roll bar. Regardless of how or where it is used, the new Compass should appeal to a broad range of consumers thanks to its aggressive exterior styling, home to standout features such as a seven-slot radiator grille, trapezoidal wheel arches and rugged protective cladding. Six exterior colours are available from launch including Hawaii (green), Pacific (blue), Antarctica (white), Amazonia (brownish green), Yosemite (grey) and Vulcano (black). Offered in front- and all-wheel drive guises, all Jeep Compass models boast up to 200mm of ground clearance and a water fording depth of up to 470mm. These generous figures are complemented by an approach angle of 20°, a breakover angle of 15° and departure angle of 26°. With 4x4 versions these angles increase to 27°, 16° and 31° respectively. Jeep Selec-terrain is standard on all models, as is a 360° protection system already present on the Avenger. Hill descent control will be standard on the all-wheel drive versions. At 4.55m long, the new Jeep Compass offers enhanced practicality with 55mm more legroom, a larger 34 l front interior storage compartment and an extra 45 l of boot space (550 l in total) compared to the model it replaces. A 40:20:40 rear seat split allows for ultimate flexibility, making it as functional for passengers as it is for cargo. On the tech side, the third-generation Compass features an all-new 10" digital instrument cluster alongside a 16" touchscreen infotainment system. Connected services with over-the-air updates are included as standard, as is Level 2 autonomous driving. Some of the options available to customers include a redesigned head-up display, semi-automatic lane change, ultra bright Matrix LED headlamps and mobile phone access. Various powertrain options are available, including a 108kW 48V hybrid and 145kW plug-in hybrid. There are also three all-electric variants ranging from a 158kW front-wheel drive up to a 280kW all-wheel drive version. The latter features a rear motor fitted with a 14:1 gear reducer that can avail up to 3,100Nm of torque, a figure Jeep says will see the Compass climb 20% gradients even with no traction on the front wheels. Image: Supplied EV charging is impressively snappy with a rapid 160kW DC solution offering a 30-minute 20%-80% recharging time, and an on-board charger with up to 22kW. Depending on the model, Jeep says the electric Compass offers a maximum driving range of up to 650km. Overseas deliveries of new Jeep Compass models are set to begin in the final quarter of 2025. Local availability is expected to be communicated by Stellantis in due course.

The third-generation offering not only packs a more rugged and upmarket look but has also grown in terms of proportions, tech, and powertrain options. The new Jeep Compass will now be available with plug-in hybrid and electric alternatives, in addition to the petrol and diesel engine options. New-gen Jeep Compass: New Platform, Evolutionary Styling The new-gen Jeep Compass is based on the Stellantis Group's STLA Medium architecture, optimised to support multiple powertrains on the same platform. Visually, the new Compass looks evolutionary, borrowing cues from the smaller Avenger and larger Grand Cherokee in Jeep's stable. The model gets the iconic seven-slot grille with a front that's more upright. There are also trapezoidal wheel arches and rugged cladding, while the bumpers are said to be reinforced with the radar systems repositioned to avoid damage in tight spaces or when tackling obstacles. The European version has a ground clearance of 200 mm, an approach angle of 20 degrees, a breakover angle of 15 degrees, and a departure angle of 26 degrees. The water wading depth measures 470 mm. The model also comes equipped with Select-terrain, which adapts the suspension according to the terrain. Jeep has made upgrades to the suspension setup with new springs, dampers, and an anti-roll bar, promising a good balance between handling and comfort. The model will be available in front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive versions. The AWD versions will have even better off-road credibility with more functional bumpers that allow 27 degrees of approach angle, 16 degrees of breakover, 31 degrees of departure angle, and improved ground clearance and water wading. The model will also come equipped with Hill Descent Control as standard on the AWD trims. The Jeep Compass electric promises a range of up to 650 km on a single charge, while the electric versions will make between 210 bhp and 370 bhp, depending on the variant New-gen Jeep Compass: More Space Furthermore, the new Jeep Compass is more spacious thanks to its new architecture. The PHEV model produces 192 bhp, while there's also a mild-hybrid version with the 48-volt architecture that develops 143 bhp. The Compass Electric is available with the 210 bhp front-wheel drive version on the base variant, while the top-spec model makes 370 bhp with all-wheel drive. The latter gets a dual motor setup, one on each axle, with the rear motor churning out an additional 66 bhp and 323 Nm of peak torque. The Compass Electric promises a range of up to 650 km on a single charge and gets a fast charging time with 20-80 per cent chargeable in 30 minutes using a 160 kW DC charger. The e-Compass also gets an active grill shutter integrated into the front bumper, air ducts on the front and rear wheels, sharp rear edges, and a flat underbody design, all of which are aimed at optimising aerodynamic efficiency. The third-gen Jeep Compass will be produced at the brand's plant in Italy for European markets. Its arrival in India is yet to be confirmed Will the new-gen Jeep Compass come to India? Notably, India is the global production hub for the current generation Compass in the right-hand drive guise. That being said, the automaker has not confirmed if the model will arrive in India in the new generation avatar, but it will be making its way to multiple markets globally in a phased manner. All-new Jeep Compass revealed with Stellantis genes, hybrid or electric power

Built around the STLA Medium platform, the new Compass shares its bones with other Stellantis SUV products such as the Peugeot 3008 and 5008, and it will be available with hybrid and electric drivetrains. Despite this, the blocky exterior design is very much in keeping with Jeep's contemporary design language.
