North Lanarkshire's top young musician announced
The event brought together talented young musicians from across the area, giving them a rare opportunity to perform at a high level beyond their usual school experiences. St Bernadette's Primary School in Motherwell hosted the North Lanarkshire round of the Scottish Young Musician of the Year (SYM) competition. The event brought together talented young musicians from across the area, giving them a rare opportunity to perform at a high level beyond their usual school experiences. After an evening of impressive performances, Oliver Cairns, a sixth-year pupil and clarinettist from Our Lady's High School (OLHS) Cumbernauld, was named the 2025 North Lanarkshire SYM winner. Oliver first entered the competition in his fourth year and has continued to grow as a musician since then. He said: 'I'm thrilled to have won the North Lanarkshire Scottish Young Musician 2025. It was amazing to perform for the audience and judges, and I'm looking forward to the final at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. 'I'd like to thank my music teachers, Ms H. Blain and Mr S. McEwan, at Our Lady's High School, and my clarinet teacher, Mrs R. Whitener, for their support and guidance. 'I'm also grateful to North Lanarkshire Council for choosing me to represent them. Competing in the final will be an incredible experience as I go on to study clarinet and composition at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland in September.' Oliver will now represent North Lanarkshire in the Scottish Young Musician Final 2025 at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland in Glasgow this May, competing against winners from Scotland's 31 other local authorities and private schools. Special recognition also went to the two runners-up: Ava Dean, a fourth-year clarinettist from Brannock High School, and Patrick Dysko, a sixth-year pianist from Taylor High School. Ava, who took part in the first SYM competition as a second-year pupil, has made great progress since then. Councillor Michael McBride, Convener of Education, expressed his gratitude: 'Congratulations to Oliver, Ava and Patrick and all the other pupils who took part. Thanks also to all the music department staff and instrumental instructors for their invaluable support in preparing the pupils for this event.' Kirk Richardson, Lead Officer of the North Lanarkshire Instrumental Music Service, added: 'A huge well done to everyone who took part. The commitment and passion shown by the young musicians were outstanding, making it a truly memorable competition.' Raymond James downgrades Symbotic on execution concerns
-- Raymond James downgraded Symbotic Inc (NASDAQ:SYM) to "Market Perform" from "Outperform" on disappointing first-quarter results, weak second-quarter guidance, and concerns over the company's ability to scale system deployments efficiently. The brokerage highlighted flat backlog at $22.4 billion and a slowdown in system deployments, which came in at 44 versus its estimate of 49. It also flagged a lack of progress in reducing time-to-deployment, a key element of its bullish thesis. 'SYM's success in reducing time-to-deployment was a core tenant of our thesis, and the current pace of 24 months shows little improvement from the rate achieved two years ago,' analyst said. While Symbotic's technology and market potential remain attractive, Raymond (NSE:RYMD) James said inconsistent execution raises doubts about its ability to scale profitably. It expects fiscal 2025 to be a year of "restoration," as the company works through operational challenges, integrates a $550 million acquisition, and builds confidence in its execution. DEADLINE NEXT WEEK: Berger Montague Advises Symbotic (NASDAQ: SYM) Investors to Contact the Firm Before February 3, 2025
Berger Montague PC advises investors that a securities class action lawsuit has been filed against Symbotic, Inc. ('Symbotic' or the 'Company') (NASDAQ: SYM) on behalf of purchasers of Symbotic securities between February 8, 2024 through November 26, 2024, inclusive (the 'Class Period'). Investor Deadline: Investors who purchased or acquired SYMBOTIC securities during the Class Period may, no later than FEBRUARY 3, 2025 , seek to be appointed as a lead plaintiff representative of the class. For additional information or to learn how to participate in this litigation, please contact Berger Montague: Andrew Abramowitz at [email protected] or (215) 875-3015, or Peter Hamner at [email protected], or CLICK HERE. Headquartered in Wilmington, Mass., Symbotic is an automation technology company which produces robotics and product-movement technology. According to the lawsuit, throughout the Class Period, Defendants made materially false and/or misleading statements and/or failed to disclose that Symbotic improperly accelerated revenue recognition in its 2024 financial statements and thus its internal controls over financial reporting were inadequate. Investors learned the truth on November 27, 2024, when Symbotic disclosed that it had 'identified errors in its revenue recognition related to cost overruns on certain deployments that will not be billable.' This failure of internal controls over financial reporting, according to the Company, had impacted system revenue, income (loss) before income tax, net income (loss), and gross margin recognized in the second, third, and fourth quarters of fiscal year 2024. On this news, shares of Symbotic fell $13.41 per share, or 35%, to close at $24.00 on November 27, 2024. A lead plaintiff is a representative party who acts on behalf of all class members in directing the litigation. The lead plaintiff is usually the investor or small group of investors who have the largest financial interest and who are also adequate and typical of the proposed class of investors. The lead plaintiff selects counsel to represent the lead plaintiff and the class and these attorneys, if approved by the court, are lead or class counsel. Your ability to share in any recovery is not, however, affected by the decision whether or not to serve as a lead plaintiff. Communicating with any counsel is not necessary to participate or share in any recovery achieved in this case. Any member of the purported class may move the Court to serve as a lead plaintiff through counsel of his/her choice, or may choose to do nothing and remain an inactive class member.
