Anupam Kher completes 44 years in Mumbai: Consider myself fortunate

He also credited the city for making him what he is shared a video of himself on Instagram and talked about the fun-filled journey he has had in Mumbai and captioned it in Hindi: "Aaj mujhe Mumbai aaye 44 saal ho gaye! Dhanyavaad mere pyaare Mumbai sheher, in utaar-chadhaav se bhare, lekin bahut hi khoobsurat aur saarthak saalon ke liye! Aage bhi mera khayal rakhna! Jai Ho! "(Today marks 44 years since I came to Mumbai!)"(Thank you, my beloved city of Mumbai, for these years filled with ups and downs - yet so beautiful and meaningful! Continue to watch over me in the years ahead! Jai Ho!)"In the clip, the actor, who is seen dressed in an olive green T-shirt, talked about his journey, which he said was "filled with highs, sometimes scattered, gathered, moments of enthusiasm, and discouragement."He was heard saying in Hindi: "Today is 3rd June, 2025, and 44 years ago, on 3rd June, 1981, I came to Mumbai. I didn't realize how these 44 years passed by. It has been a journey full of ups and downs, as life should be... filled with highs, sometimes scattered, sometimes gathered, moments of enthusiasm, and moments of discouragement."However, he credited the city, known as the financial, commercial, and entertainment capital of South Asia, for giving Anupam so much."You all have given me so much love. Thank you very much for this love. 44 years of life is a long time. Bollywood actore Anupam Kher has completed forty-one years in Indian cinema. The actor made his big-screen debut on May 25, 1984, with Mahesh Bhatt's Saaransh, where he portrayed a 65-year-old grieving father at the young age of 28. Kher took to Instagram to share a video reminiscing about his journey in the film industry, discussing his struggles, and the lasting impact of Saaransh, one of Indian cinema's acclaimed dramas. "I came to Mumbai on 3rd June, 1981, after my drama school, the National School of Drama. Then I was in Lucknow, teaching. Then I searched for work for 3 years, and then Mr. Bhatt gave me Saaransh," Kher said. "And it's been 41 years... What a beautiful journey it has been. What a thankful journey. There have been ups and downs in my journey, but it's been very good. I have made at least 544 or 545 films," he said. In the video, Kher can be seen candidly discussing his beginnings, his struggles, and the lasting impact of Saaransh. "Today is the 25th of May, 2025. Forty-one years ago, i.e., 25th of May, 1984, my first film, Saaransh, debuted. It's been 41 years since I started making films. I wanted to speak to you, to tell you about my journey of 41 years," he says at the start of the video. "I came to Mumbai on 3rd June, 1981, after my drama school, the National School of Drama. Then I was in Lucknow, teaching. Then I searched for work for 3 years, and then Mr. Bhatt gave me Saaransh," Kher shared. "And it's been 41 years--palak jhapakte guzar gaye. In front of my sister, she is 'paani kam chai (not as good)'. This is my personal opinion. If you ask, amongst all our siblings, who is the most talented, the most moralistic, it is Pooja. Pooja is the true inheritor to take the legacy of my father ahead. I saw her in her stardom. She was the biggest sex symbol of the country at that time.' The actor-turned fitness instructor revealed that he's on good terms with Alia. He shared, 'She is a mother now. She is a good mother, and she is taking care of my other stepsister, Shaheen Bhatt, very well, which I respect more.' Mahesh Bhatt was previously married to Kiran Bhatt. They have two children – Pooja and Rahul. Later, Mahesh met Soni Razdan during the Saaransh shoot. They got married on April 20, 1986, and had Alia and Shaheen. In an interview with Simi Garewal in 1998, Soni and Mahesh spoke about the origins of their love, and how they overcame obstacles. Asked if she had any resentments towards his first family, Soni said, 'For a while, maybe, but that went away over the years.' She added, 'We get along very well now, but we'd had our fights. Initially, when we weren't married, there were problems. But after that, once I got married to him, we've been very, very good to each other.'
