Sabah PMR 2025 A Boon For Tawau, Bringing Economic Blessings To Locals
TAWAU, May 17 (Bernama) -- The three-day Sabah MADANI Rakyat Programme (PMR) 2025, held at the Tawau Municipal Council Square and concluded on May 11, proved to be a significant boost for the local community. The organisation of Sabah PMR 2025 not only benefited visitors attending the programme but also provided a positive economic boost to local industry players, including those in the accommodation, transportation, food and beverage sectors, as well as dried seafood vendors. Homestay operator Siti Fatima Hari, 55, said that three houses owned by her family, one in Taman Muhibbah Jaya and two in Taman Semarak Indah, were fully booked for a week at a rate of RM300 per night. 'Bookings were made a month in advance, and my guests came from Kota Kinabalu, Putrajaya, and Kuala Lumpur. They arrived two days before the PMR event to make early preparations for the programme. 'Although my homestays were fully booked, I continued to receive numerous inquiries. I politely declined and referred them to friends who also run homestays. I received more than 10 calls asking about availability during that period,' she told Bernama. Another homestay entrepreneur, Rosa Belle Edward, 48, from Taman Ria Heights, said her two-storey accommodation with four rooms, which she has been operating for the past two years, was rented out at RM300 per night for a week to government employees from Kuala Lumpur who were involved in the PMR. 'From what they told me, most hotels in Tawau were fully booked for the PMR event, even though they had made their reservation with me a month before the programme date,' she said. 'I am grateful that this government-led programme for the people has opened up income opportunities for me and the local community. Many have also rented vehicles for their convenience in travelling around the town,' she said. For Rosnani Mukbar, 53, a food stall trader near the Tawau Municipal Council Square, food sales also increased during the PMR event. One of her featured items was nasi kuning daun pisang (yellow rice wrapped in banana leaves), sold at RM6 per packet.

MCMC unveils drone medicine delivery pilot project
TAWAU: The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has unveiled a pilot project to deliver medicines using drones at the Sabah MADANI Rakyat Programme (PMR) 2025, held at the Tawau Municipal Council Square. The drone was one of the main attractions at the National Information Dissemination Centre (NADI) booth, as a high-impact initiative for the community, especially in remote areas. Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, who officiated the closing of Sabah PMR 2025 today, also visited the NADI booth and observed the drone in action. In a statement today, MCMC's Corporate Communications division stated that the initiative to deliver medicines to NADI centres using drones will be carried out with the Ministry of Health as the main partner and MRANTI and local drone technology providers as strategic partners. 'This initiative is a pilot project to demonstrate the effectiveness of delivering medicines to rural and remote areas from health clinics to selected NADI centres.' 'It also aims to speed up access to medication for communities in hard-to-reach areas, including islands, remote villages, and locations without proper road infrastructure,' the statement said. The first phase of the drone medicine delivery project, involving two NADI centres, is expected to be implemented in the fourth quarter of 2025. 'This project supports the government's initiative to expand access to future healthcare services that are more equitable and high-quality for rural communities through technology, in line with advancements and the availability of 5G and artificial intelligence (AI),' it added. According to MCMC, the project will be expanded to 150 NADI centres in 2026 and eventually to 392 centres by 2027. At the Sabah PMR programme, the NADI booth featured various smart services covering five key areas: entrepreneurship, healthcare, lifelong learning, IT awareness, and government services.

PM Anwar: 144 projects worth RM14b implemented in Sabah
TAWAU — The MADANI Government has successfully implemented 144 development projects in Sabah to date, involving a total allocation of RM14 billion, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. Anwar said the projects include the upgrading of Tawau Hospital and Lahad Datu Prison, the construction of the Sepanggar Bay container port and the proposed heart medical centre in Kota Kinabalu. He added that the government has allocated over RM350 million for the MADANI Solar programme, with Tawau selected as the pilot project site. The initiative involves the installation of 40 solar-powered streetlights in collaboration with Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP) and the local community. 'We are doing what's best for the people… addressing issues such as electricity and energy costs, education for children, toilets, science labs, police and armed forces needs including housing, and roads to be repaired. 'In just over two years, this is what the MADANI Government has achieved. Some say it's still not enough, and I agree because some of the issues are inherited and cannot be resolved in just a year or two,' he said. Anwar said this in his speech when officiating the closing ceremony of the Sabah MADANI Rakyat Programme (PMR) 2025 at the Tawau Municipal Council square here today. Also present were Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor, Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Minister Datuk Ewon Benedick, Agriculture and Food Security Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu, Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali, Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Chang Lih Kang, Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Johari Abdul, Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar and Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain. Anwar also announced that the government has approved an additional allocation of RM10 million to maintain small shops and stalls across the state under the Projek Siap Tamu Sabah. 'In conjunction with today's Mother's Day celebration, this is a gift for the many mothers who run businesses at these Tamu Desa markets to provide greater comfort, allowing them to trade sheltered from the sun and rain. 'I don't want to be a prime minister who forgets the people's hardships. That's why we continue to do our best to develop Sabah, from enhancing connectivity to AI, digital initiatives, and our efforts to eradicate poverty,' he said. Commenting on the three-day Sabah PMR 2025, which concluded today, Anwar said it served as an excellent platform for the local community to gain exposure to various government initiatives, programmes and projects. '…for the people to learn about what the government is doing, such as in the agriculture, digital and defence sectors. Let this be a platform for monitoring government efforts and for the youth to share their views and ideas in building a great and progressive Malaysia,' he said. PM Anwar: Federal-state cooperation key to Sabah's development
TAWAU — Sabah has the potential to become a developed state through close cooperation between the Federal and state governments in championing the people's welfare, says Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. In line with this, he gave his assurance to make every effort to realise that aspiration and subsequently provide a better life for the people in the state. Anwar said it was normal for any state to request allocations for development, and such matters could be discussed amicably and harmoniously between the Federal and state governments. 'This is normal, but not through hostility or condemnation. We negotiate and find good solutions, choose elected representatives who can voice our interests, not divide us. 'This is my message: if we love our country and love our state, we must strengthen our unity. We should also be thankful to Allah, grateful that we live in peace, without war or political conflict,' he said when officiating the closing ceremony of the Sabah MADANI Rakyat Programme (PMR) 2025 at the Tawau Municipal Council Square here today. 'The Peninsula will not progress, Sarawak will not progress, Sabah will not progress if we do not unite and work together to uplift this nation. We must truly understand this. 'Look at other countries—every day there is news of division between races, between regions, between religions. Why? Because leaders incite division, and when they have power, they do not think about the people,' he said. He said these leaders, when entrusted with power and responsibility by the people to govern the country, Parliament and the government, failed to do what was necessary, and instead, after losing power, sought to divide the people. Anwar also emphasised that all fellow leaders currently in power at both the federal and state levels must do their utmost to safeguard the people's welfare and resolve their problems, rather than follow in the footsteps of leaders who only know how to condemn others after losing power. 'When they lose power, they raise issues like defending the Malays, Islam being under threat, and the state being neglected. But you had power before—do what you can while you still have it. I challenge all my colleagues in power now, do your best for the people while you still have the mandate,' he said. He said the people, especially in Sabah, were affected by many issues, including water and electricity supply, healthcare, roads, and education facilities for their children, which were crucial for their future. Therefore, he said, facilities such as schools, clinics, and key projects like the Pan Borneo Highway in Sabah must be completed properly for the benefit of the people and not be allowed to face unnecessary delays. 'In the MADANI Government, this is what we are doing. Some say it's still not enough, and I agree—it is not yet enough. Sometimes the problems we carry are inherited and cannot be resolved overnight. 'How long has the Pan Borneo Highway (in Sabah) been stuck? It's nearly completed in Sarawak, but in Sabah, it was severely delayed. Thankfully, we have Chief Minister Hajiji who said, 'Just proceed, don't worry about other problems,'' he said. Anwar said he came to Sabah to serve its people as Prime Minister and hoped all fellow leaders understood their responsibility to defend the people's welfare. — BERNAMA
