AfroSoul hit by scammers, warn fans to be vigilant
AfroSoul duo Sabelo Ngema and Thandeka Zulu have found themselves at the centre of an alarming scam after fraudsters began impersonating them online — claiming they run a loan shark business.
The scammers, using images of the married musical couple, set up a fake Facebook page offering loans under the guise of AfroSoul. The fraudulent activity has led to confusion and reputational damage for the duo, known for their Afro pop and soul hits and socially conscious lyrics.
Speaking to TshisaLIVE, Sabelo expressed his frustration and deep disappointment about the situation.
'I was alerted by people who know us, with my wife Thandeka. I think five of them wanted to borrow money from us thinking we are running a loan shark business,' he said. 'I dismissed them and they showed me the Facebook page with our images, that we are operating as loan sharks.
'This scam has dented our reputation as musicians. I don't know why people will go an extra mile to scam innocent people. I've since alerted our followers that they need to be careful not to get scammed.'
AfroSoul has urged fans to remain vigilant and to report any suspicious social media accounts claiming to be affiliated with them.
