Is this outfit too revealing for sport? Glamorous athlete sets off fiery debate with one simple video

A successful athlete has sparked furious debate on social media after she was questioned for apparently wearing too little while she was competing. Sabrina Reusch is a German heptathlete competing for LG Telis Finanz Regensburg, specialising in events such as hurdles, long jump and the 200-metre sprint. She regular posts images and videos of her training and competing wearing skimpy outfits - which is the norm in international athletics. But a recent video highlighted her anger at being told to cover up by some of her followers. The video shows her competing in javellin, wearing the same outfit she wears in running events while other competitors chose to cover up a bit more. In professional women's javelin events, athletes typically wear form-fitting singlets or crop tops paired with compression shorts or briefs to allow full range of motion. However, some female javelin throwers choose to wear bikini bottoms because they allow maximum freedom of movement, especially during the explosive run-up and throwing motion. 'Yes I wear what I want – even in javelin,' she captioned the video, which shows her competing wearing a bikini bottom. 'You're wearing too little. God forbid I wear my competition outfit with confidence and feel good in my body.' It has sparked plenty of debate online, with several commenters defending her post. 'You're only young, fit, and attractive for a finite period in life. Enjoy it,' one follower posted. 'Tell them when they can throw a javelin further than you, their opinion might count, but not really,' added another. 'And God forbid people appreciate the physique that God... and a s*** ton of hard work... has created,' commented another follower. But there were plenty opposed to her competing in bikini bottoms as well. 'Why compete in underwear?' one asked. 'As a girl right next to you is wearing normal shorts... not fooling anyone u need attention that's about it,' posted another. 'You're not wearing too little. You're whining too much,' added yet another. Reusch is the latest woman athlete to hit back at trolls complaining about their attire. Earlier this month, British middle distance runner Holly Archer clapped back after being criticised for her choice of attire in the 2025 London Marathon. 'Sorry, should I have worn a tracksuit?' she asked in a social media video. Olivia Breen, a double Paralympic world champion, was also told her sprint briefs were 'too short and inappropriate' by an official during the English Championships. 'I feel disappointed because just as I finished my long jump competition one of the female officials felt it necessary to inform me that my sprint briefs were too short and inappropriate,' Breen said on Twitter at the time. 'I was left speechless. I have been wearing the same sprint style briefs for many years and they are specifically designed for competing in.' British shot putter Amelia Stricker also defended Breen. 'Female athletes shouldn't be subjected to such criticism when there is already so much pressure on women to be 'perfect',' Sticker said. 'We are there to compete. You don't like the outfits? Don't officiate. We don't need officials adding unnecessary stress in those moments.'
