Saddle Road reopens between Ashhurst and Woodville, Manawatū

Photo: Pretoria Gordon / RNZ Fire and Emergency says firefighters have extracted a person trapped in car after a collision with a truck near Palmerston North. The crash closed Saddle Road between Ashhurst and Woodville just after 5pm, but the road has since been reopened. The Serious Crash Unit has also finished its scene investigation The crashed truck remains off to the side of the road and would be recovered during daylight hours, police said. While the road was now open, police asked motorists to drive to the conditions and expect delays while congestion eased. The injured person has been airlifted to Wellington Hospital in critical condition. Police said emergency services got reports of the crash at 5.20pm and it is believed one person is critically injured. They are advising motorists to avoid travel if possible as the only diversion is via the Pahiatua Track.
