Texas forever: Bride honors Spurs and Longhorns in wedding mehndi
A diehard Spurs fan from San Antonio is far from home, but she's carrying her Texas roots with her — even down the aisle.
The latest: Sahar Walji's mehndi, or henna that creates intricate designs on the bride's hands and feet as a pre-wedding tradition, is gaining love on X after she posted photos there last week.
Her palms featured Spurs and Longhorns logos, framed by classic floral and line work — plus her husband Naveed's name tucked into the design.
The Spurs seem to love it, too.
What they're saying: The Chicago-based couple celebrated their wedding in Cancún in December with a weekend of festivities. For Walji, who is also a University of Texas at Austin grad, weaving in her Texas roots was a must.
"Texas has always been a huge part of my identity. It really is a part of my core," she tells Axios.
"The communities I've built in both San Antonio and Austin have shaped so much of who I am, and I'm incredibly proud to rep that in big moments like this."
She teamed with Playa del Carmen-based Shakti Mehndi to bring her vision to life.
Zoom in: Walji says her husband, a diehard Chicago Bulls fan, was all in on the design — especially since he's declared the Spurs his "West Coast team."
It's become their tradition to attend every Spurs vs. Bulls game in Chicago and sit near the visitors' bench.
What's next: While the pair is enjoying life in the Windy City, a return to Texas may be in the cards.
