JSR hosps ready to handle Covid: East S'bhum civil surgeon

1 2 Jamshedpur: The city is equipped to handle any situation arising due to the spread of Covid-19 virus, said East Singhbhum district civil surgeon Dr Sahir Pal. Dr Pal said, "We are in a wait-and-watch situation, waiting for formal guidelines and advisory from govt. The RT-PCR laboratory at the Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Medical College and Hospital can be made operational within short notice. " Earlier, during the first wave of Covid outbreak, laboratory samples collected for RT-PCR testing had to be sent to West Bengal or Odisha, which delayed the treatment process. Now, Jharkhand is has its own laboratories. Dr Pal added, "Health officials can prepare isolation wards for Covid positive patients in short notice. There is no dearth of oxygen as most govt and private hospitals have manufacturing plants." Dr Amit Trivedi, a pulmonologist, said, "There is no need to worry as experts say that the virus is a mild variant but people must not be complacent. They must follow the precautions." "Govt must keep a watch on the data of Covid patients. This will help authorities to strategise advisory to contain the virus," he added. Dr Trivedi said, "Kolkata has logged 11 cases. Every day, around 50,000 people shuttle between the two cities for various purposes. So being careful from early days will help to check the spread. As schools are closed for summer vacation, children are safe. Testing of people with Covid symptoms must be started by govt as soon as possible as it is one of the key factors to check the spread of the virus."
