Involve more PACS to develop cooperative supply chain, Shah to States
New Delhi, Jun 2 (UNI) Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation, Amit Shah, on Monday said to develop a complete cooperative supply chain, states and cooperative marketing federation should involve as many Primary Agricultural Credit Societies (PACS) as possible at their level. Shah chaired a review meeting of the world's largest cooperative food grain storage scheme here, an official statement said here. Addressing the meeting, Shah said that the world's largest food grain storage scheme is a big step towards realising the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi of 'Sahkar Se Samriddhi'. He said that there are two major parameters to measure economic progress in India—Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and employment generation. The food storage scheme is meant to strengthen both these aspects, which aims to increase the income of PACS as well as create rural employment opportunities, he pointed. He emphasised the need for immediate action to improve the financial condition of PACS by extending the loan period under the Agriculture Infrastructure Fund (AIF). Emphasising on the extensive involvement of PACS in the food storage scheme, the Minister of Cooperation said that it is necessary to make PACS an integral part of this scheme so that the financial viability and social effectiveness of PACS can be ensured. He directed the Ministry of Food and Public Distribution and Food Corporation of India to conduct national level mapping of warehouses across the country so that the implementation of the scheme can be done smoothly according to regional requirements. Shah also instructed FCI, NCCF, NAFED and State Warehousing Corporations to connect PACS with as many warehouses as possible. It was also decided in the meeting that States should involve more PACS at their level in the scheme, and the State level Marketing Federations should also be linked with it so as to develop a complete cooperative supply chain. Shah called upon all the organisations to coordinate and implement the scheme in a timely and effective manner so that this scheme proves to be a milestone in achieving the goal of 'Atmanirbhar Bharat' and 'Sahkar Se Samriddhi'.

Union Cooperation Minister Amit Shah on Monday called for immediate action to expand the loan facility to Primary Agricultural Credit Societies (PACS), under the Agriculture Infrastructure Fund (AIF), to improve their financial condition. Apart from Ministers of State for Cooperation Krishan Pal Gurjar and Murlidhar Mohol, officials from the Ministry of Cooperation, Food and Public Distribution, Consumer Affairs, FCI, NABARD, National Cooperative Development Corporation (NCDC) and other institutions were present in the meeting. Currently, there are more than 1 lakh PACS in India according to the National Cooperative Database Portal. The AIF was launched in 2020 to provide medium- to long-term debt financing for the development of agriculture infrastructure across the country. The scheme was initially set for a ten-year period (2020-2030) but has been extended to 2032-33.

Shah chairs meeting on sustainability and circularity in cooperative dairy sector
New Delhi, May 20 (UNI) Union Minister of Cooperation Amit Shah on Tuesday chaired a meeting on sustainability and circularity in the cooperative dairy sector and said that under the 'White Revolution 2.0' sustainable development and circular economy should be ensured in the cooperative dairy sector During the meeting, it was decided to establish three new multi-state cooperative societies for the cooperative dairy sector. The first society will focus on 'animal feed production, disease control and artificial insemination', the second will promote 'developing cow dung management models' and the third will promote 'circular use of dead cattle remains', an official statement said. Addressing the meeting, Shah said, "As we move towards White Revolution 2.0, our goal should not only be to expand dairy cooperatives and make them efficient and effective but also to create an ecosystem of dairy that is sustainable and promotes a circular economy. If farmers' income is to be increased, we must create a network of integrated cooperatives where most of the work is done through mutual cooperation and collaboration among cooperatives". He stressed the importance of ensuring that the direct benefits of carbon credits reach farmers through scientific models. He also highlighted the need to strengthen milk unions and cooperative societies and encourage food processing in dairy plants. Shah said, "We have to travel together from 'Sustainability to Circularity' which will be multi-dimensional and the work that the private sector is doing today will be done by the farmers' own cooperatives. This includes technical services, animal feed, artificial insemination, animal disease control, dung management and activities from collection to processing in dairy and agriculture related sectors". Referring to successful cooperative models like Amul, the Minister of Cooperation said that the vision of 'Sahkar Se Samriddhi' is being realised today and 'Cooperation among Cooperatives' is playing an important role in this. He said that the Ministry of Cooperation and the Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying have brought all stakeholders together, so that now the work of policy making, financing, formation of village level cooperatives and making them multipurpose is taking place at a fast pace. The National Dairy Development Board (NDDB) has done very important work in the field of sustainability and the biogas and cow dung management programme developed by them is being expanded across the country. He said that this needs to be taken further. The meeting was attended by Union Minister of State for Cooperation Krishan Pal Gurjar and Murlidhar Mohol, Secretary of the Ministry of Cooperation, Ashish Kumar Bhutani, Secretary of the Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying, Alka Upadhyaya, Chairman of the NDDB, Meenesh Shah, and Chairman of NABARD Shaji KV.
