One of the suspects, a female between 25 and 35 years old, allegedly approached the victim in a parking lot outside of a business in the 140 block of Lansdowne Avenue on June 2. The suspect asked for directions in an attempt to distract her, while one of the male suspects entered her vehicle and stole her wallet, according to a news release from the force. The female is described as having a medium build and long dark hair. She was wearing a long beige cardigan, black pants, a black hat with an 'N' on it, black sneakers and a light-coloured purse. He was wearing a black jacket with a Nike symbol on the left chest, light-coloured pants, black running shoes with white soles, black glasses and a grey hat. He was wearing a tan camouflage zip-up hoodie, a black bucket hat with a white square logo on the front, blue jeans, and white and blue sneakers. A 20-year-old man has been arrested and charged with first-degree murder in a brazen daytime shooting in uptown Saint John this week. Saint John Police Force said Hayden Donald-Bentley appeared in Provincial Court Wednesday, and has been remanded into custody until his next appearance on May 21. In a release, police said another suspect — a youth — was also arrested and is in police custody. There is a third suspect who has been identified and remains at large. Three suspects were seen fleeing the area on foot, investigators said. Story continues below advertisement The incident prompted Saint John Police Force to issue a warning on X for the public in the are to 'shelter in place.' A short time later, the New Brunswick RCMP issued an Alert Ready message on behalf of the police force. The alert was lifted by mid-afternoon. The Major Crime Unit continues to investigate. The incident has left many in the neighbourhood shaken. Police Chief Robert Bruce said gun violence isn't on the rise in the city, and that police are actively working to prevent future violent incidents. 'This one happened to occur right in the middle of our city, which is scary to everybody,' he said. 'But we're doing the best we can with our patrol people, with our crime people, with the quick reaction team, with the integrated enforcement unit and street crime unit.'

One man arrested following shooting in Saint John, N.B.

SAINT JOHN, N.B. - Police in Saint John, N.B., say one man has been arrested following a shooting Tuesday in the commercial, uptown area of the city. Police said they responded to a report of shots fired at 10:28 a.m. and found a 20-year-old man dead in a vehicle. They did not release details about the victim. Three male suspects were seen leaving the area on foot, they said, describing the shooting as an isolated incident. ARTICLE CONTINUES BELOW An Alert Ready notification described the suspects as a white man with brown hair and wearing a dark jacket; a white man with dark clothing, and a Black man wearing a light blue hoody with dark pants. Police did not say which of the three had been arrested. 'It's still an ongoing investigation and police are trying to identify and locate the other two suspects,' Staff Sgt. Shawna Fowler, from Saint John Police Force, said in a statement. It was not immediately clear whether all three were armed. The shooting led police to lock down schools in the area around King's Square and issue an order for residents to remain indoors. Police lifted those restrictions a few hours later after the arrest.
