Caraway has HR, 4 RBIs to help Oregon St. beat USC 14-1, stay alive at Corvallis Regional
CORVALLIS, Ore. (AP) — Trent Caraway had a double, a home run, and four RBIs, Gavin Turley also hit a homer and Oregon State beat Southern California 14-1 at the Corvallis Regional on Sunday night. Oregon State (44-13-1) can win its second consecutive regional title with another win over the Trojans on Monday. The Beavers — who lost 6-4 to Saint Mary's Friday, then won games Saturday against TCU and earlier Sunday against Saint Mary's, avenging their opening-round loss by beating the Gaels 20-3 — have won three consecutive elimination games. Oregon State starter Wyatt Queen gave up back-to-back singles to lead off the fifth, walked Ethan Hedges to load the bases and struck out Bryce Grudzielanek before Kellan Oakes came on and struck out Adrian Lopez looking and then got Abbrie Covarrubias swinging to end the threat. Oakes (3-0) had four strikeouts in 1 2/3 innings before before Zach Kmatz struck out seven across three scoreless innings for his first save of the season. Wilson Weber and Caraway led off the second with back-to-back singles before a sacrifice bunt by AJ Singer moved both runners into scoring position. Weber scored on a bunt single by Canon Reeder, who was thrown out at second on a bunt by Dallas Macias, who reached on a fielder's choice to drive in Caraway. Tyce Peteron — who finished with four hits — had an RBI single up the middle Macias scored on a sacrifice bunt by Easton Talt to make it 4-0. Maximo Martinez had an RBI single in the second for USC (37-22). Brayden Dowd led off the first with a single but was thrown out at home when Hedges followed with a double. No. 8 overall seed Oregon State stays alive in Corvallis Regional with 20-3 rout of Saint Mary's
CORVALLIS, Ore. (AP) — Wilson Weber, Trent Caraway and Tyce Peterson all homered to back a strong start by Ethan Kleinschmit and No. 8 overall seed Oregon State avoided elimination in the Corvallis Regional with a 20-3 romp over Saint Mary's on Sunday. The Beavers (43-13-1) need to beat No. 3 seed USC twice — Sunday night and again on Monday — to move on to the super regionals. The Trojans (37-21) need one win to advance. Kleinschmit (8-3) yielded two runs on five hits and three walks in 7 2/3 innings — throwing 114 pitches. Joey Mundt got the final four outs. Oregon State took a 1-0 lead in the second inning without a hit off Gaels starter Lukas Sarantos (3-1). Caraway walked on a 3-2 pitch, moved to second on a sacrifice bunt and advanced to third on a wild pitch before he scored on a sacrifice fly by Canon Reeder. The Beavers added two unearned runs in the third, No. 9 batter Peterson hit a solo home run in the fourth, and Caraway did the same in the fifth for a 5-0 lead. Saint Mary's got within 5-2 in its fifth on RBI singles by Eddie Madrigal and Cody Kashimoto. Oregon State answered with a nine-run sixth to put it out of reach. Sarantos allowed three runs — one earned — in 2 1/3 innings. Tai Gardini gave up Peterson's homer and Noah Waldeck surrendered Caraway's shot. Weber homered off Elliott Joslin in a six-run ninth. Oregon State has played in eight straight NCAA Tournaments and 32 overall. The Beavers have made seven College World Series appearances — most recently in 2018 when they won it for the third time. They won back-to-back championships in 2006-07. Saint Mary's (36-26) only other tournament appearance came in 2016. ___ AP college sports:

USC baseball holds off Saint Mary's, advances to regional final
USC baseball holds off Saint Mary's, advances to regional final On Friday, USC baseball won its first NCAA Tournament game in 10 years. On Saturday night, the Trojans followed it up with another victory, defeating Saint Mary's 6-4. The Trojans will play for a regional championship. They are one of 32 teams left standing at the 2025 NCAA Baseball Tournament. USC fell behind 3-1 early in Saturday's game against Saint Mary's. However, Augie Lopez tied it up with a two-run home run in the fourth inning, and Ethan Hedges hit a solo shot in the fifth to give the Trojans the lead. USC added an insurance run in the seventh, and escaped a bases-loaded, no-out jam in the eighth inning allowing just one run to preserve a 5-4 lead. USC added one more in the bottom of the eighth for the final margin. USC's Caden Hunter, who spent the majority of the season as a starter, came out of the bullpen to pick up a four-out save. With the victory, USC advances to the Corvallis Regional final. Saint Mary's will face Oregon State at 3 p.m. Pacific time on Sunday. The Trojans will play the winner of that game shortly following, with first pitch scheduled for 7 p.m. Having won both of its first two games, USC has the significant advantage of coming out of the winner's bracket. If the Trojans win Sunday night, they will advance to the NCAA Super Regional. Should they lose, they would get another crack at either the Gaels or Beavers on Monday. USC has not been to the super regional round of the tournament since 2006. Sunday night, the Trojans will aim to end that drought.
