Sharjah Opens the Emirate's Biggest Solar Power Plant
The Deputy Ruler of Sharjah, His Highness Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed Al Qasimi, opened the emirate's largest solar power plant on Wednesday, June 25.
The solar power plant is called Sana and has a production capacity of 60 megawatts and covers 850,000 square metres in the Sajaa Gas Complex.
Sana has been in the making for eight years, and this solar power plant can produce clean energy equivalent to the annual electricity consumption of 13,780 homes, reducing carbon dioxide emissions by 66,000 tonnes annually.
The UAE's government seeks to hit its 2030 target of producing 30 percent of its energy from clean sources, and Sharjah's new solar power plant brings the country closer to that goal.
Renewable energy generation is expected to grow approximately by 14 percent a year from 2025 to 2027.
