TGSRTC MD affirms commitment to solve workers' problems

While the State government has approved filling up 3,036 full-time posts, this process is facing delays on account of technical issues, Telangana State Road Transport Corporation Vice Chairman and Managing Director V.C. Sajjanar said. Mr. Sajjanar was speaking at a meeting of the TGSRTC's Employee Welfare Board meeting on Tuesday where he affirmed his commitment to resolve issues of its 42,000 employees. The meeting comes amid strained relations between the TGSRTC's management and unions. Speaking to workers, he said the TGSRTC management, with State government support, would solve workers' issues in a phased manner. Touching upon recruitments, he said that the kin of as many as 2,350 workers who had passed away were given employment in the corporation. Touching upon criticism over staff being strained on account of the implementation of the Mahalakshmi Scheme, he said the management is cognisant of the workload issue for which drivers and conductors will be recruited on a temporary basis. He also accused the TGSRTC management's critics of spreading false propaganda.

TGSRTC committed to employee welfare, says MD VC Sajjanar

Hyderabad, May 27 (UNI) Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TGSRTC) Managing Director VC Sajjanar reaffirmed the corporation's commitment to the welfare of its employees, stating that all pending issues will be addressed in a phased manner with the support of the state government. Sajjanar made these remarks during a meeting with the State-level Employee Welfare Board held at the TGSRTC Kalabhavan in Baglingampally on Tuesday. As chief guest, he interacted with board members and senior officials, taking stock of field-level issues and receiving valuable feedback. He emphasised that the management prioritizes the well-being of employees who are working with dedication to ensure passenger safety. Highlighting several welfare initiatives, Sajjanar said that salaries are being paid on time every month, the 2017 PRC and 2013 RPS bonds were released with 21% fitment, and pending Dearness Allowances (DAs) have been sanctioned. The MD informed that compassionate appointments have been provided to the families of 2,350 employees who died in service, and jobs were offered to 537 medically unfit employees. Under the Grand Health Challenge initiative, health screenings were conducted for all staff, resulting in life-saving interventions for 726 employees and 184 of their spouses. Sajjanar addressed concerns over temporary recruitments of drivers and conductors to manage the increased workload due to the Mahalaxmi scheme. He clarified that while 3,036 regular posts have been approved by the state government, recruitment is delayed due to technical reasons but will be conducted strictly according to rules. He urged employees not to be misled by false propaganda or provocative statements being made by a few individuals. He also appealed to the central government to support TGSRTC in procuring electric buses, with backing from the state government, in line with green mobility goals. Sajjanar assured that all decisions made by the management are transparent and in the best interest of both the employees and the organisation, with no personal motives involved. He encouraged Welfare Board members to act as a bridge between the staff and management and to openly communicate employee concerns to senior leadership. He added that the suggestions made during the meeting will be seriously considered. The meeting was attended by Executive Directors Munishekhar, Khushrosha Khan, Solomon, Venkanna, Rajasekhar, Finance Advisor Vijayapushpa, heads of departments, and others, a TGSRTC statement said. TGSRTC's digital transactions still on first gear

The Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TGSRTC) began accepting Unified Payments Interface (UPI) transactions a couple of months ago, aiming to make ticketing convenient for passengers and to address the problem of small change. While the initial response has been encouraging, the payment method is yet to achieve widespread popularity, according to RTC officials. According to official data, digital transactions now average 35,000 per day. Other digital payments for advance seat bookings account for another 14,000 transactions daily. Passengers scan the QR code on the Intelligent Ticket Issuing Machines (iTIMs), carried by conductors, following which the digital payment is processed and tickets issued. With a city fleet of approximately 2,800 buses, TGSRTC has around 6,200 QR code-enabled iTIMS. A significant number of these are within the Greater Hyderabad Zone (GHZ), which includes the IT corridor in western Hyderabad. However, despite a promising start, data indicates that digital payment adoption remains sluggish. While TGSRTC officials emphasise that the uptake is organic, digital transactions currently constitute a little over 10% of total ticketing in the GHZ. Another 20% is for advance reservations. 'We started accepting digital payments very recently. We want the adoption of digital payments to be organic. Once the system stabilises, we will certainly work on awareness and expansion of this mode of payment,' said TGSRTC Vice-Chairman and Managing Director V.C. Sajjanar. Occasional glitches The payment process has been smooth and seamless. However, occasional glitches have been reported like delays in processing digital payments. A conductor on the 49M route — which connects Mehdipatnam and Secunderabad — spoke about slow processing at times, possibly due to weak network signals in certain areas. 'Sometimes, by the time the payment is processed, we are already at the next bus stop,' he remarked. TGSRTC officials, however, attribute these issues to a recent UPI outage that disrupted digital payments across the country, an incident acknowledged by the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI). 'Due to the recent UPI outage, some payment issues were raised. Otherwise, there are no significant problems with UPI payments,' Mr. Sajjanar clarified. A transport researcher, while commending TGSRTC's move towards digital payments, suggested further measures to enhance adoption. He proposed installing static QR codes on panels inside buses, as seen in Bengaluru, to facilitate easier cashless payments, as an alternative to scanning the codes on iTIMS. 'Digital transactions have gained massive popularity elsewhere. It is only a matter of time before TGSRTC witnesses a substantial rise in such payments,' the transport expert observed.

Telangana Congress govt put RTC on path of revival, says Ponnam

Hyderabad: Transport minister Ponnam Prabhakar on Sunday said the Congress govt has put the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TGSRTC) on the path of revival after it was on the verge of closure. Addressing the general body meeting of the Telangana RTC Retired Officers Welfare Association, the minister took potshots at the previous BRS govt for neglecting the corporation. "The previous BRS govt neither recruited employees nor purchased new buses. The Congress govt will soon fill over 3,000 posts in the corporation and has decided to purchase new buses. We are expanding the RTC and working with the welfare of RTC employees and passenger comfort in mind. We are giving top priority to these issues," he said. RTC MD Sajjanar and retired employees also participated in the meeting. Responding to the request for pensions for RTC employees, the minister said pensions had never been provided to RTC employees since the corporation's inception. "Though there are financial difficulties, the govt is committed to solving all the issues of the employees. We will look into this demand," he further said. The minister said the Congress govt reduced the provident fund dues of employees from Rs 1,373 crore to Rs 580 crore, and employees' credit society dues from Rs 682 crore to Rs 450 crore. "The govt is doing everything possible to strengthen the RTC. The introduction of free bus travel for women has increased RTC's revenue, as men and children also travel along with them. The govt is regularly reimbursing the free bus travel amount to RTC, and retirement benefits are being given on the day of superannuation itself," he said. "Let us together protect the RTC. The govt is ready to provide Rs 300 crore every month to the RTC. The chief minister and deputy chief minister are positive about the corporation's development. We have made appointments on compassionate grounds and are making new appointments. I will take your suggestions to the notice of the chief minister. But let's work together to make Telangana RTC number one in the country. Don't embarrass the corporation by getting involved in politically motivated issues," Ponnam told officials.
