Sakanoue x Drips Bakery: Famous kakigori brand's 1st SG outlet opens w exclusive flavours & pastries
As the warmer months creep in, you might start craving something icy to beat the heat. Lucky for you, the famous Japanese shaved ice brand Sakanoue Cafe has opened its first Singapore outlet in Tiong Bahru! Sakanoue's new branch in Drips Bakery Cafe at Tiong Poh Road is its permanent home in Singapore and only its second overseas outlet. The brand's pop-up stores in 2023 and 2024 were met with tremendous support by locals, some of whom queued for over an hour for its famous kakigori. What sets this shaved ice apart from your usual ice kacang is that it's made from premium imported Japanese ice made by Kuramoto Ice, which is over a century old. To create the fluffiest texture, the ice is prepared over 72 hours in a process that removes all impurities. This dessert will only be available from 1pm to 9pm or until it sells out. From 4 to 20 Apr, customers can enjoy a free hot or iced or Spring Tea and 15% off all tarts and pastries with every purchased as part of the launch. Sakanoue's Signature Blackforest(S$19.80) is a Singapore Exclusive flavour inspired by Drips Bakery Cafe's Signature Blackforest Cake (S$12.80 per slice). A combination of cream cheese, dark chocolate, tea caramel, brandied cherries and cinnamon cookie crumbles, it's a decadent treat. Drizzle on some cherry brandy liqueur before you dig in! To contrast the alcoholic richness, the Strawberry Shortcake (S$19.80) with cream is simple, light and fruity. Both kakigoris are not too sweet yet deliciously icy, and it's recommended that you start eating within 10 seconds of serving before the ice begins to melt. Other available flavours include savoury Blazing Fire Cheese (S$19.80), Pistachio Chocolate (alcoholic) (S$18.80), Lemon (S$17.50) and Sakanoue Berry Cute Panda (S$18). The Cheese and Berry Cute Panda are drizzled with raw honey from Kofu, Yamanashi which is famous for its deep flavour. Like its kakigori cousin, Drips' Signature Blackforest Cake is luxuriously boozy. It's made of brandy-soaked French chocolate sponge and chocolate mousse, and filled with vanilla cream and alcoholic cherries. In honour of the partnership with Sakanoue, Drips has also released 2 new pastries. The sweeter of the two is the Black Sesame Danish (S$5.50). Made with buttery pastry and stuffed with black sesame paste and stretchy homemade mochi, it's the perfect flaky 'classic Asian flavour' treat. For savoury, the Danish (S$5) is the latest heart-stealer inspired by Japanese savoury pancakes. Chicken yakitori is encased in puff pastry and topped with Japanese mayonnaise, teriyaki sauce and bonito flakes to create a unique fusion snack. Wash down the sugariness with the sugar-free Momo Sencha or Sakura Spring Tea, available hot or iced. The first has a prominent peach fragrance, while the latter tastes more floral. Sakanoue at Drips will be open to the public from 4 Apr onwards, and the Launch Promotion lasts till 20 Apr. Are you down for a visit?
