Iran isn't in a place to handle an Israeli strike due to internal struggles, expert says
'Salami makes threats every other day. Nothing new. Inside Iran, he's seen as illiterate and is mocked. He's not someone who worries us.' The current negotiations betweenIran and the US are simply a game for the Islamic Republic, an expert revealed to Maariv. Beni Sabti, a senior researcher on Iranian affairs at the Institute for National Security Studies (INSS), argued that the recent spike in rhetoric surrounding Iran's nuclear program is less about an imminent war and more about political maneuvering by both Iran and its adversaries. In the wake of reports suggesting Israeli readiness to strike Iran's nuclear facilities independently, and following a reported ultimatum from former US President Donald Trump to Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, Sabti offered a more grounded interpretation. 'This isn't a new crisis—it's a familiar Iranian chess game,' Sabti told Maariv. 'What many see as dangerous threats are often bluffs, ones even the Iranian public doesn't take seriously.' Regarding ongoing nuclear negotiations between the US and Iran, Sabti predicted more delay tactics from Tehran: 'The Iranians will likely propose so-called compromises just to push back deadlines. That's how they operate. They hold onto cards and play them when the timing suits them.' According to Sabti, Iran still has room to maneuver diplomatically. 'There's still space to compromise - on uranium enrichment levels, international inspections, even centrifuge operations - if Iran chooses to do so.' Recent Israeli military actions, particularly in Yemen, have reignited debate over whether Jerusalem could act independently against Tehran's nuclear ambitions. Sabti was unequivocal: 'Israel has the operational capability. Militarily and physically, there is no barrier to such an action.' However, he warned of a critical caveat. 'The main issue is coordination with the US - whether America would provide intelligence or defensive support during a strike.' Sabti is openly dismissive of Iranian threats, particularly from IRGC commander Hossein Salami, who he said is ridiculed even within Iran. 'Salami makes threats every other day. Nothing new. Inside Iran, he's seen as illiterate and is mocked. He's not someone who worries us.' Sabti also highlighted the technological and strategic gap between the two countries. 'Israel has modern capabilities. Iran, in contrast, is stuck in the 1970s. Their air force is practically non-functional, flying aircraft that are 60 years old. That's not how you confront a regional power.' Beyond the geopolitical theater, Sabti pointed to deepening unrest within Iran. 'There's no bread, no electricity. The situation is deteriorating quickly. Strikes are spreading—something we haven't seen in years.' Despite the rising rhetoric, Sabti believed diplomacy would prevail in the coming weeks. 'There are backchannel discussions between Israel and the US, conducted by long-standing intermediaries. It's hard to imagine a scenario where there's both a signed agreement and simultaneous plans for an Israeli strike.' While acknowledging the risks, he remained cautiously optimistic. 'I believe there will be an understanding—something that's not black or white, but acceptable to both sides. Whether that's a military option or a diplomatic one, it could still be a solution Israel can live with.'

Salami: America yielded to Yemen's power, Gaza thwarted superpowers
Tehran – Saba: Commander of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps Major General Hossein Salami said on Tuesday "Iran's power in confronting global challenges and enemy threats has increased significantly, and we are facing problems with greater confidence." According to Tasnim International News Agency, at the conclusion of the conference of teachers and leaders of Al-Salihin Educational Network, held in the holy city of Mashhad, he praised the strength of the people of Gaza in confronting Israel and America. Salami noted the achievements of the Yemenis in confronting America, and highlighted the strength of "Yemen," saying, "The faith of these people is unshakable. When we speak with them, we find that their language is purely Quranic. This courage and faith enabled them to crush America and Israel." He added, "US President Donald Trump praised Yemen and described them as amazing." He declared a unilateral ceasefire, showing that even the enemies recognize Yemen's strength. Salami said, "After two months of intensive bombing in Yemen, America has reached the conclusion that it has achieved nothing. This demonstrates their weakness and failure." He added, "The American aircraft carriers, which are like floating cities, were unable to make any progress, and the enemy saw that damaging them would cause major problems for America, so they were forced to cease fire." Salami said, "In Gaza, people are living without water or food and are facing harsh conditions. Yet, they were able to thwart two superpowers: America, as the main supporter of Israel," according to Iran's Tasnim News Agency. Whatsapp Telegram Email Print

600 missiles attack: Iran warns Israel, US
Shafaq News/ On Tuesday, Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) commander Major General Hossein Salami warned that Iran could launch 600 missiles simultaneously at Israel and US forces across the region if conflict erupts. 'If we fire 600 missiles at once, can the enemy withstand it?' Salami asked during a televised speech. 'Our enemies do not understand the consequences of their threats. Even Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is afraid to visit Azerbaijan,' he added. Salami described Iran's position as 'increasingly resilient,' with growing confidence in navigating regional and global challenges. He also characterized current conflicts as no longer limited to conventional warfare, but unfolding across media, culture, and ideology. Gaza, he noted, reflects how determination can confront military superiority. Turning to Yemen, Salami highlighted US aircraft carriers avoiding direct confrontation and a subsequent unilateral ceasefire by Washington, interpreting the move as a signal of strategic restraint.

Iran denies US media claim of identifying secret nuclear facility
Tehran: Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi on Friday rejected a Fox News report claiming to have identified a new secret nuclear facility in Semnan province. In a post on X, Araghchi dismissed the "Very Scary Satellite Images" touted by Fox News as part of an effort by Israel to derail the forthcoming indirect talks between Tehran and Washington. "Like clockwork, more Very Scary Satellite Images are being circulated as Iran-US indirect nuclear talks are set to resume," Araghchi said. Fox News reported that it had exclusively obtained satellite imagery purportedly showing a previously undisclosed Iranian nuclear weapons facility, a 2,500-acre compound codenamed "Rainbow Site" that the network said has been disguised as the chemical producer Diba Energy Siba and active for more than a decade, Xinhua news agency reported. The rebuttal comes on the eve of the fourth round of Oman-mediated indirect talks on Iran's nuclear programme and US sanctions relief. To date, delegations from both sides have met three times, twice in Muscat on April 12 and April 26 and once in Rome on April 19. On Thursday, a top Iranian military commander said that Iran prefers and prioritizes the path of diplomacy for resolving the nuclear issue, but is also ready for war if threatened, according to the official news agency IRNA. "Our preference and priority regarding addressing the nuclear issue is the path of diplomacy and a fair manner, far from the atmosphere of threat. However, we are ready for any war on any scale," Chief Commander of Iran's Islamic Revolution Guards Corps Hossein Salami said at a commemoration ceremony in the northeastern city of Mashhad. Based on its own political will, Iran voluntarily does not seek to develop nuclear weapons, and has excluded such weapons from its defence doctrine, Salami said. The United States, which has "bitter experiences" of interferences in other countries, has proven itself to be untrustworthy and incapable of keeping its promises, Salami noted, adding that should the United States threaten Iran, Iran would be ready for a war. "If you put a foot wrong, we will open the doors of hell to you," he said. Salami's remarks came after Iran and the United States held three rounds of indirect talks with mediation from Oman throughout April, and also after fresh US sanctions were imposed in late April on a number of individuals and entities in Iran and other countries. The fourth round of Iran-US talks, which was originally scheduled for May 3 in Rome, was postponed due to what Oman described as "logistical reasons."
