Fat Tuesday event raises awareness on human trafficking
SALEM, Ohio (WKBN) — While many bought Paczki to celebrate Fat Tuesday, others used it as a time to combine delicious food with a good cause.
The Salem Kiwanis Club hosted Fat Tuesday Chef Tasting Tuesday evening where 20 'celebrity chefs' put together their best recipes for the event Tuesday evening at the club.
The 200 people who bought tickets got to sample the spread and proceeds went to FreeThree, which provides services locally for the trafficked and vulnerable.
'We get to celebrate and we get to eat great food but it means everything to us because we are seeing the community respond and saying, 'Not here, not now, not on our watch.' You cannot have someone for sale. You cannot exploit our kids in our Valley and so, to that and see the community partner with us, it means everything,' said FreeThree Executive Director Amy Bordon.
Events like the Fat Tuesday Chef Tasting help FreeThree create more awareness and help victims of trafficking.
The group would like to raise more money for after-care housing.
