Erie Zoo to host ‘Hoo Do You Love' Valentine's event this weekend

(WJET/WFXP) — 'Owl' bet you didn't see this coming — The Erie Zoo is hosting jam-packed weekend of events to celebrate the holiday of love. The zoo announced Tuesday that this weekend — Saturday, February 15 and Sunday, February 16 — they'll be hosting a special Valentine's themed event as a way to celebrate their 100-year anniversary. Erie VA residents receive valentines for Salute to Veteran Patients Week While the event, appropriately titled 'Hoo Do You Love,' will mainly focus on avian conservation, all of the animals at the zoo will have a chance to celebrate. Atendees can create Valentine's Day-themed enrichment and crafts for the animals, as well as join in on zookeeper's discussions. Coming in 'candy' — Local chocolate stores stock up on supplies for Valentine's Day rush The president and CEO Roo Kojancie explained that the zoo wanted to do something special to celebrate such a large milestone. 'In celebration of our 100-year anniversary, we're opening the gates for winter hours thisValentine's Day weekend to allow the public to come show our animals a little winter love,' said Roo Kojancie, president and CEO of the Erie Zoo. 'As part of our 100 year celebration, we're excited to offer more ways to connect with your Erie Zoo.' Residents at Erie VA Medical Center's community living are feeling the love a little extra this week. It was all smiles at the Erie VA Medical Center Tuesday afternoon as their residents got a sweet surprise. West County Paramedic Association receives $100K grant for new ambulance Valentines were delivered to inpatient and outpatient veterans on Tuesday in honor of National Salute to Veteran Patients Week. It's a celebration where the Department of Veterans Affairs and all VA medical centers pay tribute to their patients to let them know they are not forgotten. Subscribe Now Salute to Veteran Patients Week is held every year on the week of Valentine's Day to reflect the true meaning of the holiday which is sharing and caring. The chief of voluntary service said she's got to know their residents on a personal level and it's really special getting to see their reactions. 'It's nice to break away from the office from the normal mundane work every day to just have a little conversation with them, wish them well, and brighten up their day. we handed our carnations and chocolates and our switchboard operators donated some hot wheel cars, decorated with pretty red bows so we gave those out them as well,' said Karen O'Neal, chief of voluntary service at the Erie VA Medical Center.
