Shia LaBeouf Saddles Up for Crime Thriller Film GOD OF THE RODEO — GeekTyrant

Shia LaBeouf is set to star in God of the Rodeo , a new crime thriller written and directed by Father Stu filmmaker Rosalind Ross. The movie is set in Louisiana's infamous Angola Prison in 1967, God of the Rodeo tells the story of Buckkey, 'a hardened inmate serving a life sentence who finds a glimmer of redemption in an unlikely opportunity: the prison's first-ever inmate rodeo. 'As Buckkey and his fellow inmates prepare for a last grasp at glory, they're confronted with the reality that the rodeo is nothing more than a gladiatorial showcase — a grueling fight for survival designed to satiate the public's bloodlust and fulfill the warden's delusion of godliness." The film is based on journalist Daniel Bergner's real-life reporting from inside the prison which was one the most violent prisons in the American South. Giannina Scott is producing through her Cara Films label, with Ridley Scott and Michael Pruss on board via Scott Free Films. It sounds like exactly the kind of role that will give LaBeouf space to go unhinged, soulful, and unpredictable, as he likes to do with the films he stars in. LaBeouf's been keeping busy. He's currently on screen in Salvable , a Lionsgate drama about a washed-up boxer trying to fix things with his estranged daughter. He's also in David Mamet's Henry Johnson , which adapts Mamet's 2023 play and puts LaBeouf in the middle of a moral tailspin. God of the Rodeo doesn't have a release date yet, but it sounds like it will be a great project for LaBeouf to take on. Source: Deadline

Salvable: The new Shia LaBeouf crime drama filmed in south Wales

Cast and crew from the latest production to be filmed in Barry and the surrounding area have got tattoos to remember filming in the south Wales town. Boxing crime drama Salvable, filmed across Vale of Glamorgan last year, and featuring Transformers star Shia LaBeouf, has just been Michael Socha was one of many cast and crew members who took up the offer of a free tattoo from a local LaBeouf declined, saying he wanted to save the remaining space on his body for tattoos of his daughter's drawings. It is the most recent in a string of productions shot in the area, following Netflix's Havoc starring Tom Hardy and BBC's Gavin and stars Planet of the Apes' Toby Kebell as a Welsh boxer who grapples with his past, while LaBeouf plays an old friend and bad portrays Kebell struggling to escape a small town while battling a damaged relationship with his teenage shots show a raw and rugged seaside town, with boxing brawls on the port of Barry, shabby side streets and hazy tides at Penarth by Bjorn Franklin and Johnny Marchetta, the drama also stars Highlander actor James Cosmo and Kíla Lord Cassidy. LaBeouf was spotted taking selfies with residents while filming around Barry and Penarth in a tattooist got to know crew members much better - after offering them free body art. Bianca Oliveira, 28, owner of Tattorana in Barry, said her partner Luke heard rumblings there were some famous faces filming near her store. After plucking up the courage to approach them, Bianca decided to offer them a free tattoo at her all initially laughed it off, she said, but the following day several of them turned up to take her up on the offer. Both the directors, the costume designer and Socha, who also starred in This Is England, were among them. The crew then decided to film along a side street next to the shop, with the parlour used as a base throughout the meant Bianca could fit their appointments in around the filming. LaBeouf opted out of getting a tattoo, with Bianca saying he was saving most of the free space on his body to get his daughter's drawings. "I thought that was really nice and really sweet," she said. Bianca had a client booked in the morning, but said she didn't want to cancel or rearrange, so the crew waited until she was ready. "Shia LaBeouf was here just walking around, watching me tattoo, I was like 'no pressure'. Obviously I was nervous, but once it started I just put on productive mode," she said. "It went well, towards the end of the day I was talking to them like they were regular clients." Bianca said she loved This is England growing up, so getting the opportunity to tattoo Socha was "surreal". Socha opted for the word "rebel" on his ribs, as Bianca recalled him saying: "I'm going to get the word rebel, because I'm a rebel." For the full Barry experience, the crew even sampled some fish and chips from the shop opposite, Fryer Tuck. Bianca said the team have held on to a can of diet coke LaBeouf sipped from on the pavement of Barry high street as a memento of the day. After the encounter, Bianca said she regularly got stopped by people who recognised her and the shop from a story in the local newspaper. "I like Barry. For a small town it's pretty big," she said.

‘Salvable': A Rocky-ish Boxing Tale Set in South Wales

R | 1h 41m | Sports, Crime, Drama | 2025 There are three kinds of human conflict: man against nature, man against man, and man against himself. Boxing solidly encompasses two of those categories in one fell swoop, which is why boxing stories are the crown jewel of sports movies. They never get old. No other competitive sport is better at reflecting one's fight against all that stands against them. Consider the fact that all of the following boxing-related movies won Oscars, or were nominated: 'Ali,' 'Million Dollar Baby,' 'On the Waterfront,' 'Raging Bull,' 'Rocky,' 'When We Were Kings,' and at least 20 more. Sal (Toby Kebbell, L) and Oliver (Jermaine Liburd) spar, in "Salvable." Lionsgate 'Salvable' follows a year of boxing movies. In recent months, there was the German film ' Welly (James Cosmo) and Sal (Tony Kebbell, R) hits mitts, in "Salvable." Lionsgate The film industry also keeps its finger on the pulse of current events. It surely observed the spectacle and massive build-up of the Mike Tyson-Roy Jones, Jr. fight, the excitement leading up to the recent Jake Paul-Mike Tyson travesty, as well as the great success of the 'Creed' franchise that bloomed from the 'Rocky' franchise. Unfortunately, 'Salvable' isn't going to join that Oscar list. While it's nowhere near as bad as the egregious 'Uppercut,' it's nowhere near as good as Jake Gyllenhaal's 2015 boxing film 'Southpaw.' Is 'Salvable' worth your while? Only if you're a boxing addict and can't get enough of the topic. 'Salvable' 'Salvable' takes place in Barry, Vale of Glamorgan, in Southeast Wales. It stars British actor Toby Kebbell and original 'Transformers' star Shia LaBeouf—using a Welsh accent—in a fairly action-packed film about a boxer's trials and tribulations both inside the ring and out. Former world champion boxer Carl Froch has a cameo in 'Salvable,' and he trained both Kebbell and LaBeouf for the film. Sal (Toby Kebbell, L) and Vince (Shia LaBeouf) argue whether Sal should beat a man to death in an illegal fight, in "Salvable." Lionsgate When Sal (Kebbell), a past-his-prime, battered boxer realizes, a la Rocky, that his dreams and relationships are possibly down for the count, he (also like Rocky) is tempted to fall back in with the no-good, robbing, stealing, hustling bad element he ran with in his youth. It's headed up by his childhood friend Vince (LaBeouf). He arrives at a crossroads of choosing the hard right over the easy wrong. His incentive? He needs to reclaim his hope and the love of his estranged daughter. Related Stories 3/5/2023 11/7/2015 Sal (Toby Kebbell) plays chess with his daughter, Molly (Kíla Lord Cassidy), in "Salvable." Lionsgate Shia LaBeouf nearly ruined his career after 'Transformers' with a long string of prima donna scandals and allegations, but his unwavering intensity and commitment to his craft is second to none. 'Salvable' is far too niche a movie to catapult the former 'Transformers' star back to the heights of Hollywood stardom again. (L–R) Former world champion Carl Froch, Toby Kebbell, and Shia LaBeouf on the set of "Salvable." Lionsgate The boxing action is solid, and the life coaching Sal receives from boxing club owner Welly (James Cosmo, best known as Hamish's dad in 'Braveheart') is wise. Sal's relationship with his daughter is exceptionally sweet, but the relationship with his ex-wife, bitter and degrading. One might say that for a tragedy about a man on the brink of emotional collapse, there's surprisingly little raw emotion on display. Toby Kebbell's performance reads more like a heroic ability to forbear with dignity in the midst of suffering and chaos. Lionsgate opens 'Salvable' in theaters, digital, and On Demand on May 2, 2025.
