Salvation Army Bintulu celebrates excellent SPM students

BINTULU (May 5): The Salvation Army Bintulu on Saturday honoured a group of exceptional students for achieving outstanding results in their Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) examinations with gifts.
This celebration came in the wake of a fire that struck Taman Bukit Orang, Jalan Sultan Iskandar here on April 13, where six single-storey terrace houses were destroyed in the wee hours of the morning—displacing 67 residents.
Among the losses were school uniforms, shoes and school supplies.
Salvation Army Bintulu Corps officer Capt Daniel Lim emphasised the importance of community solidarity and support during times of crisis.
'A field assessment conducted by the Salvation Army revealed the fire impacted 53 adults, 11 teenagers, 11 children and one infant.
'However, a wave of good news followed with the release of the 2024 SPM results. Several students who have received aid and moral support from the Salvation Army and other community groups have excelled academically—achieving remarkable results against the odds,' he said.
He added community leaders and donors, left inspired by the students' resilience, contributed additional gifts and donations to recognise their hard work.
'A small gesture of encouragement can be a powerful motivator.'
Lim also hoped these students would pay it forward one day and continue the cycle of compassion.
