How ‘Grand Theft Hamlet' found the soul in video-game cinema
After months of agonizing work under pandemic restrictions, Sam Crane's production of 'Hamlet' inside 'Grand Theft Auto Online' went live on Twitch. '21 people! I've definitely played for less people than that for sure!' he reflects in the film as his player character, dressed in a blazer and T-shirt and sporting a green undercut. He is, indeed, Hamlet, virtually adorned in the sartorial echoes of the early 2010s that birthed 'Grand Theft Auto V,' the 2013 game that's become the second best-selling game of all time and was at one point was the most profitable entertainment product in history.
