Auburn baseball vs. Stetson: Score prediction, scouting report for NCAA Regional contest

AUBURN — Auburn baseball is two wins away from another NCAA Regional crown. The No. 4 overall seed in this year's NCAA Tournament, the Tigers handled 4-seed Central Connecticut State on Friday for a 9-5 victory, moving on to a matchup with 3-seed Stetson on Saturday. (8 p.m. CT, ESPN+) Much like the Blue Devils, The Hatters proved to be a pesky out Friday, handling 2-seed North Carolina State for a 11-2 victory. They exploded for a seven-run first inning, and Stetson starter Jonathan Gonzalez pitched six shutout innings. Advertisement Ahead of Saturday's matchup, here's a look at the Hatters and a score prediction for their matchup with the Tigers. Who does Auburn baseball face next in NCAA Regional play? A look at Stetson By the numbers: Stetson baseball Record: 41-20, 24-6 ASUN Seeding: 3-seed Latest result (May 30): 3-seed Stetson 11, 2-seed North Carolina State 2 at Plainsman Park Top performers Hitting Batting average: Isaiah Barkett (.387) RBIs: Lorenzo Meola (42) Home runs: Lorenzo Meola (11) Pitching ERA: Jonathan Gonzalez (1.83) Strikeouts : Jonathan Gonzalez (105) WHIP: Jonathan Gonzalez (0.95) Score prediction: Auburn baseball 6, Stetson 4 The Hatters proved Friday that beating them will be far from easy, and as Auburn's struggles on the mound continued in its victory over the Blue Devils, it'll need something different on the bump against Stetson. With ace Sam Dutton likely getting the nod for the Tigers, they'll need a bounceback effort after a run of streaky starts. But Auburn also proved its lineup sets it apart against Central Connecticut State, out-hitting the Blue Devils when they seemed unstoppable. Advertisement If it can get enough from Dutton, its lineup should carry it to victory. Adam Cole is the Auburn athletics beat writer for the Montgomery Advertiser. Auburn names Sam Dutton starter versus Stetson

Auburn names Sam Dutton starter versus Stetson Auburn will go to Sam Dutton on Saturday night versus Stetson After defeating Central Connecticut State, the Auburn Tigers are looking to pick up another win in the NCAA Baseball Tournament. Cam Tilley took the mound in game one and struggled early. He did not make it through two innings before being replaced by Carson Myers. Auburn hopes to have a better outing by its starting pitcher versus the Stetson Hatters. After the win on Friday evening, it was announced that Sam Dutton would get the start on Saturday night. Dutton has been the Tigers' best pitcher for most of the season. He started 14 games this season and posted a 6-3 record. He led the Tigers with 89 strikeouts and was named to the All-SEC Second Team. His last start was on May 16th against Ole Miss, where he struggled. He gave up seven runs in three innings pitched. The Tigers lost the game 15-11. Auburn fans should expect a much better performance at home Saturday night. Dutton does have experience in the tournament setting from his time at LSU. The Stetson Hatters will have a team of confident batters after their 11-2 win over NC State on Friday. The Hatters jumped out to a 7-0 lead after the first inning. Third baseman Isaiah Barkett had the best game on the team. He had three hits and scored two runs with four RBIs. The team overall had 13 hits and three doubles. They were helped with nine walks as well. If the Tigers can continue their strong hitting from Friday night and Dutton pitches like he is accustomed, Auburn should have a successful night. LSU baseball to face pitcher from LSU's 2023 national title team on Friday night

LSU baseball to face pitcher from LSU's 2023 national title team on Friday night LSU baseball will see a familiar face throwing pitches when it travels to face Auburn for a three-game series on Friday night. Former Tiger Sam Dutton transferred to Auburn following the 2024 season and in 2025, Dutton emerged as Auburn's ace. Through eight starts, Dutton's ERA sits at 2.66. Good enough to rank No. 6 among qualified starters in the SEC. In Dutton's first SEC start vs. Vanderbilt, he threw seven innings and only allowed two runs. Last week vs. Alabama, Dutton went seven shutout innings. Dutton allowed a combined eight runs vs. Georgia and Kentucky, but aside from that, he's exactly what Auburn needs in an ace. Now, Dutton will be tested again as he's set to face his former team. Dutton arrived at LSU in 2022. He made 11 starts as a true freshman and posted a 5.12 ERA in 38.2 innings. He returned in 2023 but struggled with a 7.97 ERA over 20.1 innings of work. However, Dutton did make an appearance in LSU's College World Series final vs. Florida. In 2024, Dutton appeared in 20 games and made four starts. He finished the year with a 5.86 ERA over 27.2 innings of work. Dutton always had the talent, but it never came together at LSU. He's found a rhythm at Auburn and looks like one of the top pitchers in the SEC right now. Dutton has big experience from his time at LSU and he won't shy away from the task of facing the Tigers on Friday. Auburn sits at 6-6 in the SEC and is coming off a series win vs. Alabama. With a strong finish in conference play, Auburn can host a regional in June.
