On July 1st, Montrealers are coming together to celebrate Canada Day in the Old Port of Montreal. Get ready for the first-ever Canada On The Move walk through the streets of Old Montreal! Gather at 11:30 a.m. at Place d'Armes, where the opening festivities kick off at noon. While it's not a parade, the walk officially starts at 12:30 p.m. and ends at 1 p.m. at the Quai de l'Horloge, just in time for the Canada Day ceremonial 21-gun salutes in the Old Port, and the swearing-in ceremony of new Canadians. Don't forget to grab a small Canadian flag! The Urban Science Brass Band, a unique hip-hop group that blends the infectious groove of New Orleans brass with the energy of rap, will play music along the route. Once you arrive in the Old Port, expect food trucks, children's activities, percussion performances by Samajam, an adrenaline zone for skateboarding and scootering, creative workshops, and much more—free mini cupcakes included! In case of moderate rain, all of the planned events are being held. Plan for a raincoat or poncho as umbrellas can impair visibility. How to celebrate Canada Day in Montreal
If you're not caught up in the moving day madness Tuesday, you might remember it's also Canada Day. Here's how you can celebrate: Canada Day in the Old Port Montreal's official Canada Day festivities will kick of at 1:30 p.m. in the Old Port at the Quai de l'Horloge on the St. Lawrence River. Celebrations begin with a 21-gun salute at 1:30 p.m., followed by a swearing in ceremony for new Canadian citizens at 2 p.m. The events will also include a display of military trucks, activities for children and a performance by percussion group Samajam. 'Canada on the Move' It's not quite a parade, but this year's events will feature the first edition of what organizers are calling a 'festive walk' to the celebrations in the Old Port. Planned in conjunction with the main event, the walk will begin at Place d'Armes and arrive at the Quai de l'Horloge in time for the 21-gun salute. Participants can arrive at Place d'Armes from 11:30 a.m., where Canada flags will be distributed. An opening ceremony is planned for 12 p.m., with the march toward the Old Port starting around 12:30 p.m. and arriving at the main Canada Day event at 1 p.m. Canada Day in Pierrefonds-Roxboro This year's edition of the West Island event will begin with a parade departing from École de l'Altitude at 10 a.m. and arriving at Pierrefonds Community High School between noon and 12:30 p.m. The route is posted on the event's webpage. A main stage event will feature local pop-rock band Simple Plan as the headliner, beginning at 6 p.m. at the Borough Hall and culminating with a fireworks display at 10 p.m. Other West Island events Several West Island municipalities are also planning Canada Day events. Pointe-Claire, Dollard-des-Ormeaux and Dorval will all host their own festivals, featuring music, fireworks and activities for children.

Bahrain Keraleeya Samajam Unveils 'Shravanam 2025' Onam Celebrations
TDT I Manama Bahrain Keraleeya Samajam (BKS), one of the largest expatriate association in the Kingdom of Bahrain, officially commenced its annual Onam celebrations, named 'Shravanam 2025,' with the ceremonial 'Onam Vilambaram' (Onam Proclamation) and the inauguration of the Onam Committee Office. The event was jointly inaugurated by UNICO Chief Operating Officer Jayashankar Viswanathan, BKS President P.V. Radhakrishna Pillai, and General Secretary Varghese Karakkal. The ceremony saw the presence of Onam Celebration Committee Convener Varghese George, Joint Conveners Harikrishnan, Nisha Dileesh, Rajesh K.P., Abhilash Velukkai, along with other BKS executive committee members and Shravanam 2025 committee members. Following the office inauguration, various cultural programs presented by Samajam members were staged. Program Convenor Sanalkumar and Joint Convener Remya Binoj led the cultural performances. 'Shravanam 2025' will feature a diverse array of festivities spanning over a month and a half. This year's Onam celebrations will kick off on August 22 with 'Pilleronam' and culminate with the grand Onasadya on October 3. Pilleronam will be followed by a 'Ruchi Mela' (Food Festival) led by Raj Kalesh. The official inauguration of the Onam celebrations will take place on September 1 with the flag hoisting ceremony. Subsequently, the Samajam will host various cultural and sports competitions. The festivities will be enhanced by musical evenings led by renowned singers Chithra and Madhu Balakrishnan, a band performance by Arya Dayal, Sachin Warrier & Team, and a musical night led by Pandalam Balan. The Bahrain Keraleeya Samajam Vanitha Vedi (Women's Forum) will present a dramatic dance spectacle, 'Vindhyavali,' and a mega 'Thiruvathira' performance as part of Shravanam 2025. BKS President P.V. Radhakrishna Pillai announced that the Samajam's Onam celebrations have been meticulously planned to allow all Malayali expatriates in Bahrain to participate and enjoy. General Secretary Varghese Karakkal further added that all expatriates in Bahrain would have the opportunity to participate in the competitions organized as part of the Onam celebrations. The celebrations will conclude with the traditional Onasadya on October 3, led by the acclaimed chef Pazhayidom Mohanan Namboothiri.
