Dad killed his pregnant wife after learning their unborn baby's gender

A US dad fatally stabbed his pregnant wife and then tried to kill his two young daughters because he was angry he wasn't going to have a son, it has been claimed. Drew Garnier, 33, admitted to repeatedly stabbing his five-months-pregnant wife, Samantha Garnier, 29, and their children, Izzie, 6, and Adelina, 9, in the bloodbath at the family's home in upstate New York on September 4 last year. His wife and their unborn child both died in the attack, which was just weeks before the mum turned 30. While the young girls are recovering from 'significant injuries,' the New York Post reports. Now Samantha's grieving father, Gregory Vernagallo has claimed Garnier killed in anger as he was furious that his wife was pregnant again with a girl. 'He wanted a boy,' Mr Vernagallo told the court during a victim impact statement at sentencing. Garnier pleaded guilty last month to first-degree manslaughter and two counts of first-degree assault — both class B violent felonies. He was sentenced last week to 30 years in prison — with 15 years of post-release supervision — as part of the plea deal aimed at protecting the surviving daughters from the trauma of a trial. 'We were able to secure this conviction without forcing two young children to testify about the horrific things they witnessed,' District Attorney Shawn Smith said of the sentence being lighter than he wanted. The killer dad has also been forbidden from seeing his daughters until 2056 — the maximum allowed — which only the girls can overrule if they eventually want contact. 'You took a life and injured your children. They had a right to expect protection from you,' Judge John Hubbard told the dad of the decades-long no-contact order. Samantha Garnier was due to give birth in February. Her daughters are still recovering from their injuries — and have been adopted by their maternal grandfather. 'I am their father now,' Mr Vernagallo said at sentencing. 'I will protect them.'

Dad Wanted a Baby Boy. When He Learned His Wife Was Pregnant with a 3rd Girl, He Did the Unthinkable

Drew Garnier, 33, stabbed his wife Samantha, 29, to death in Sept, 2024 at their home in New York while she was five months pregnant with the couple's third daughter A judge sentenced him to 30 years in prison after Samantha's father read a victim impact statement saying Garnier killed his wife because "he wanted a boy" He stabbed his daughters, 6 and 9, that same night, and to spare the girls the trauma of having to testify at trial, prosecutors agreed to a deal that let Garnier plead guilty to lesser chargesA New York man accused of murdering his pregnant wife and then stabbing their two daughters was sentenced for his crimes this week. Drew Garnier, 33, will serve 30 years in prison followed by 15 years of supervised release after entering a guilty plea to charges of first-degree manslaughter and two counts of first-degree assault in a deal with prosecutors. There was just one victim impact statement read in court prior to the sentencing, according to a summary of the proceedings released by the Delaware County District Attorney's Office — and it came from Garnier's former father-in-law, who said that his daughter Samantha was killed by her husband because "he wanted a boy." Samantha, who was just 29-years-old and five months pregnant when her husband brutally stabbed her to death, had learned at the time that the couple's third child would be also be a girl. Garnier's father-in-law said in court that his two granddaughters now have a new father after he adopted the girls. "I am their father now," he said. "I will protect them." Police arrested Garnier on Sept. 5, 2024 after responding to a report of a domestic dispute at his home in Centerville, according to the New York State Police. The NYSP said that all three females inside the home had multiple stab wounds, and received treatment from state troopers while waiting for EMTs to arrive on the scene. All three females were then airlifted to hospitals due to the severity of their injuries, said NYSP in a release at the time. Samantha was pronounced dead shortly after her arrival, while the two girls managed to pull through in the Delaware County District Attorney's Office acknowledged the fact that the trauma those two young girls endured is part of the reason Garnier was able to make a deal which helped secure him a far more lenient sentence. District Attorney Shawn J. Smith said at the sentencing that while he did not feel the plea deal between prosecutors and Garnier was ideal, he wanted to spare the defendant's two daughters from having the endure a lengthy trial and instead allow them to "focus on recovering from their ordeal." The judge prohibited Garnier from contact with his daughters through 2056, though the girls can petition the court to amend that order should they ever wish to speak with their father. New York father does the unthinkable to his pregnant wife and two daughters after learning their baby's gender

A New York man allegedly murdered his pregnant wife and tried to kill his two young daughters because he was upset his unborn child was going to be another girl. Drew Garnier, 33, stabbed his five-months-pregnant wife, Samantha Garnier, 29, to death and turned the knife on his daughters Adelina, 9, and Izzie, 6, on September 4, 2024. He entered a deal with prosecutors and pleaded guilty on March 25. He was finally sentenced to 30 years in prison and 15 years of post-release supervision on May 13, according to a statement from the Delaware County District Attorney's Office. During his rampage just after Labor Day last year, Drew slaughtered his wife and their unborn daughter, and severely injured his two children inside their Masonville Home. Police rushed to the scene in response to calls of a domestic dispute. Drew was immediately arrested. He was charged and eventually found guilty of first-degree manslaughter and two counts of first-degree assault - all class B violent felonies. Samantha was airlifted to a hospital and pronounced dead. Adelina and Izzie were also hospitalized and eventually recovered from their injuries. During his victim impact statement, Samantha's devastated father, Gregory Vernagallo, 66, claimed Drew was driven to kill simply because 'he wanted a boy.' He added the little girls, who he has since adopted, are traumatized from watching their mother perish and being brutally attacked by their own father. 'I am their father now, I will protect them,' Vernahallo said, according to the district attorney's office's statement. Drew asked Judge John Hubbard to be able to contact his kids if they wanted to speak with him, but District Attorney Shawn Smith immediately objected. Hubbard agreed with Smith and issued a stay way order between Drew and his daughters that expires in 2056, which Drew refused to sign. The judge said changes could be made to the no contact mandate at Adelina and Izzie's will. Smith admitted her felt the plea deal entered between prosecutors and Drew was far too light for his violent and evil crimes, but he wanted the girls to 'focus on recovering from their ordeal,' instead of dragging them through a trial. 'District Attorney Shawn J. Smith reiterated the details of the plea agreement and stated the sentence was not perfect, but that is spared the children the trauma of trial,' the statement from the district attorney's office reads. After sentencing the cold-hearted killer, Hubbard emphasized how disgusted he was with Drew's actions. 'You took a life and injured your children. They had a right to expect protection from you,' he said before ordering Drew to be taken into state custody. In a statement, Smith said: 'While nothing we do can bring Samantha back, her killer has been put where he belongs.' According to a GoFundMe that raised more than $23,100 after she died, 'Sammi' was a dedicated mother who adored her kids. She was due to give birth to her third child in February.
