R. Kelly Suffers Overdose Due To Medication Given To Him By Prison Staff, His Attorney Claims

R. Kelly is usually the topic of internet jokes, especially when a new celebrity is sent to jail. This past week, however, the 58-year-old singer suffered a health scare in prison that has people raising their eyebrows. Kelly had been put in solitary confinement last Tuesday (June 10) as part of his conviction for sex trafficking and racketeering. He had anxiety medication in his possession, but on that day, prison staffers were caught on camera instructing him to take a different prescription, per documents reviewed by The Independent. Three days later, the 'Same Girl' singer claimed that he felt faint, dizzy, and was seeing Black spots in his vision. He eventually lost consciousness and was taken to Duke University Hospital. He also claimed that, while being rushed to the medical facility, he heard a prison worker say, 'This is going to open a new can of worms.' Kelly ultimately spent two days being treated in the hospital, and realized that he was given a dose of medicine that could have killed him. R. Kelly had also reportedly been suffering from untreated blood clots over the last few months. Duke University workers identified blood clots in his legs that would require surgery. Still, his lawyers claimed that prison officers denied him the ability to get surgery and removed him from the hospital. The prosecution claimed that the judge who granted the controversial artist his release did not have the authority to do so, and the motion will he heard during a hearing this Friday (June 20). The timing of all this is interesting, as R. Kelly's legal team had been trying to get in contact with President Donald Trump to obtain a pardon for him. Their attempt was motivated by his allegedly being the target of an assassination plot by a white supremacist gang that was in his prison. Federal prosecutors labeled his efforts to get released as 'deeply unserious' and 'repugnant.' More from R. Kelly's Lawyer Says Singer Sympathizes With Diddy Amid Federal Sex Trafficking Trial R.
