41 villages in district face overnight power outage
Pune: As many as 6,000 consumers faced power cuts throughout Friday night in 41 villages in the district because of damage to 40-km transmission cables in forest area during strong winds and heavy rain.
The villages where electricity supply was disrupted included Velhe, Pabe, Dapodi and Vajeghar.
The power was snapped at around 11.30 pm on Friday and rectified only on Saturday morning. Electricity transmission cables from four poles supplying of 33kV to the Pabe substation was snapped near Kamthadi on the Satara highway amid heavy rainfall.

said the time taken to conduct repairs was long due to the cables were in the rugged terrain.
Power utility staff faced difficulties in repairing cables because of slippery mud in the paddy fields and forest area.
A team of 10 technicians carried out the repair work overnight. While repairing cables, lead technician Sameer Mujawar was attacked by two foxes, but he was not injured as his colleagues raised alarm loudly and threw light at the animals to prevent harm, causing them to flee, the power company said in a statement.

The repairs and other works were completed by morning. Electricity supply to all consumers in the area was restored by 10.15am on Saturday.
"There are two forts in the area, Rajgad and Torna. Residents of some of the larger villages such as Velhe have backup, but those in remote areas faced a lot of problems due to power cuts," Anand Kenjale, an trekker, said.
