Samsung Galaxy G Fold may not go on sale in the US — what we know

We've all heard about the Samsung Galaxy G Fold, the new tri-fold phone, that's coming later this year. Details on the phone itself have been a little scarce, especially in terms of release details. But a new leak claims to shed some light on when the phone will arrive — and where. According to Yogesh Brar, the Galaxy G Fold will launch in Q3 of this year, but will only be available in two markets, Like the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold SE, the tri-fold will apparently only be available in South Korea and China. On top of that, the leaker claims that the phone will be available in "limited quantities" with a price tag between $3,000 and $3,500. It's not clear how limited the numbers will be, sadly. Obviously that is not the news a lot of people wanted to hear. The fact the phone is expensive isn't a huge surprise — foldables are already pricey without the extra hinge. But there will be plenty of people upset at the fact they're not able to pick one of these new phones up in the U.S. or Europe. Of course the Galaxy G Fold is a very niche device that probably isn't going to sell in huge numbers anyway. The price tag alone will be enough to put all but the most dedicated (or wealthy) foldable fans off the phone altogether. But if the release of the Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition is anything to go by, fans may just have to be a little more patient. The Z Fold SE never made it out of Asia, not officially anyway, but it is rumored to be the basis of the upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 7. Get instant access to breaking news, the hottest reviews, great deals and helpful tips. So a lot of the same benefits coming to the Special Edition, like the 200MP camera and lightweight titanium hingeplate, will be available on the flagship model. Almost as though Samsung was using the Special Edition model to see if it could offer those things, without risking things going wrong on the flagship release. I'm not saying that the Z Fold 8 will magically have a tri-fold design. But it's possible that Samsung wants to use the Galaxy G Fold as a trial run before offering a wider release of tri-fold phones. Both to ensure the design is sound, and up to scrutiny, and to see how well they'll sell. That's just speculation, but it would certainly help avoid any embarrassing launches — like we saw with the original Galaxy Fold. But we'll have to wait and see what Samsung actually does, and whether the limited G Fold release actually goes smoothly or not.

Is Samsung's triple-foldable just a dual-hinge Z Fold 7? New leak reveals

Samsung has been working on a triple-foldable device for some time now. First showcased in 2023, the company is speculated to finally launch the device -- Samsung Galaxy G Fold -- this year. While there is no confirmation on the launch date, the rumour has it that the phone will be introduced with the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 and will launch after a month or so. But this is not the only aspect that is common between Galaxy Z Fold 7 and triple-foldable devices. A new leak suggests that other than being a dual-hinge device, the tri-fold may mimic the Z Fold 7. advertisementSamsung triple-foldable vs Galazy Z Fold 7A new leak from tipster PandaFlashX has added fuel to the speculation surrounding Samsung's long-rumoured tri-fold smartphone. Posting on X, the tipster claimed the device is now 'confirmed', hinting that Samsung is finally ready to unveil the innovative smartphone. However, no exact launch date was provided. Previous whispers suggest it could debut in July, potentially alongside the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Z Flip 7—but that remains to be seen. According to the leak, Samsung's first tri-fold will adopt a 'full-flat body like the Fold 7', suggesting a clean, boxy design that mirrors its upcoming flagship foldable. In terms of hardware, the speaker drivers are said to be 'the exact same as the Galaxy Z Fold 7', complete with 'the same design cut-outs'. Additionally, the hinge system will closely resemble the one used in the Z Fold 7, albeit with an extra hinge to accommodate the triple-fold While the details remain unconfirmed, the similarities in design and components hint that Samsung may be building upon its established foldable blueprint for its next major leap. As always, it's wise to take such early leaks with a pinch of tri-foldable: What to expect Samsung's upcoming tri-fold device, rumoured to be called the Galaxy G Fold, is generating buzz with several key details coming to light. One of the most significant features is its expected 9.9-inch display when fully unfolded, placing it just shy of Huawei's Mate XT, which offers a 10.2-inch screen. Unlike Huawei's outward-folding design, Samsung is said to be opting for a dual inner-folding mechanism, which should better shield the main display from terms of physical dimensions, the Galaxy G Fold could unfold to roughly 9.96 inches in width and stand at around 6.54 inches tall. It's also likely to be slightly bulkier than Huawei's rival device. There's talk of S Pen support too—patent documents hint at a built-in slot for the stylus, indicating a potential productivity the device may fall short in the charging department. Reports suggest it will only support 23W to 24W charging speeds—quite modest compared to the 100W+ speeds seen in today's top-tier Android flagships. Samsung has consistently taken a conservative approach to fast charging, and it appears that this philosophy will carry over to its tri-fold for price, don't expect it to come cheap. Given that Huawei's Mate XT debuted at around $2,800 (approximately Rs 2.4 lakh at the time), Samsung's Galaxy G Fold is expected to land in a similar premium bracket, firmly placing it among the most expensive smartphones ever released.
