Samsung in talks with Perplexity to preload AI search features on devices: Report
Samsung is in talks with Perplexity to have the AI search startup's app and AI assistant preloaded on devices manufactured by the South Korean giant. It has also discussed integrating Perplexity's search features with the Samsung web browser as well as Bixby, its virtual assistant. The deal enabling Perplexity-integrated Samsung devices is expected to be announced within this year, according to a report by Bloomberg. The Samsung Galaxy S26, which is slated to be launched in the first half of 2026, will also reportedly include Perplexity as an option to be the default AI assistant on the high-end smartphone. With this partnership, Samsung appears to be taking a leaf out of Apple's book and working with a mix of AI developers in order to reduce its dependence on Google. Perplexity, meanwhile, is well-positioned to scale its mobile partnerships such as the recent integration deal with Motorola. Samsung and Perplexity have also reportedly talked about developing an AI-powered operating system as well as AI agents. Beyond on-device AI capabilities, Samsung is further expected to invest in Perplexity as part of a new funding round, with the Jeff Bezos-backed startup reportedly aiming to raise $500 million at a $14 billion valuation. The purported deal comes months after it was revealed that Google pays Samsung an 'enormous sum' of money for default placement of its Gemini AI assistant. The details emerged during the Google search antitrust remedies case, where a US federal court heard arguments about what are the potential penalties owed by Google for having an illegal monopoly of the online search market. A US Department of Justice (DOJ) lawyer had also said that Google shares Gemini subscription revenue with Samsung as part of the deal. Apple has previously expressed interest in working with Perplexity too. 'We've been pretty impressed with what Perplexity has done, so we've started some discussions with them about what they're doing,' Eddy Cue, Apple's senior vice president of services, said in his testimony at the Google search antitrust remedies trial. The iPhone-maker has already announced that its Siri voice assistant will be integrated with OpenAI's ChatGPT.

Samsung Galaxy S26 camera rumored to stick at 50MP — but there could be a brand new sensor instead
It's going to be several months before the Samsung Galaxy S26 arrives, but we're already starting to hear rumors about what the phone could have to offer. A new leak claims that the phone will get an upgraded camera, but those of you hoping for any meaningful bump in resolution are going to be rather disappointed. According to a report from GalaxyClub, the entry-level Galaxy S26 will retain a 50MP main camera — the same resolution we've had since the Galaxy S22. But resolution doesn't mean much in the grand scheme of things, certainly not compared to the upgraded sensor apparently coming to the phone. The report claims that the S26 will finally ditch the ISOCELL S5KGN3 sensor in favor of a newer ISOCELL GN sensor. It's unclear which sensor may come to the phone, and it's speculated that it might even be one that hasn't been officially announced yet. While often ignored, the sensor can make a great many differences to the overall photo quality. A larger sensor captures more light, for example, which can boost low-light performance among other things. Presumably, we'll find out more after the launch of the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Z Flip 7 this summer, as the rumor mill pivots towards next year's flagship release. One of the biggest upgrades we've heard about for the Galaxy S26 series comes from the Galaxy S26 Ultra. Word is that the phone will offer a 200MP telephoto lens, with 5x optical zoom. Meanwhile, the secondary telephoto shooter is said to be jumping to 50MP with 3.5x optical magnification. To top it off, the main camera may feature a ridiculous 324 megapixel resolution sensor. You thought 200MP was a lot? Well, this one is more than 50% bigger, and if you ask me, that might be rather excessive for a smartphone. Get instant access to breaking news, the hottest reviews, great deals and helpful tips. There's also speculation that Samsung may scrap the Galaxy S26 Plus and release the skinny Galaxy S26 Edge in its place. Considering how close the S25 Plus's hardware is to the S25 Ultra, that would certainly help the third Galaxy phone stand out from its compatriots. Let's just hope that the rumors that Samsung is switching back to Exynos chips don't come to fruition. It's been rather nice having Snapdragon performance on the flagship around the world, rather than just the U.S.

While it is expected come with a 50-megapixel main shooter, Samsung is reportedly changing the sensor. Instead of the ISOCELL GN3 sensor that's been around since the S23 days, Samsung may use the ISOCELL GN series sensor in the Galaxy S26. The new sensor could offer better low-light performance and image quality, even if the megapixel count stays the same. Some leaks even suggest a switch to a Sony sensor with similar specs although everything at the moment is more of buzz instead of anything Galaxy S26 Edge replacing the Plus variantAnother bit floating around is that the S26 Edge might take the place of the S26+ next year. We are hearing reports that both Apple and Samsung are planning to retire their Plus models. While Apple is expected to introduce a new iPhone 17 Air variant to replace the Plus model in the four-iPhone lineup, Samsung, on the other hand, is said to be removing the Galaxy S26+ variant and just keeping the Samsung Galaxy S26, Samsung Galaxy S26 Edge, and the mighty Samsung Galaxy S26 reason behind ditching the Plus model is said to be the poor year-on-year sales of the models in the lineup. Reports suggest that for 2025, Samsung is projected to ship 37.7 million Galaxy S25 series units. Of those, only 6.7 million are expected to be S25+ units. In comparison, the S25 Ultra is expected to contribute 17.4 million units, with the standard S25 reaching 13.6 is apparently watching how the S25 Edge performs before making the final call, so the lineup could still change before S26 Ultra getting big upgrades in camera and displayWhile the base and mid-tier models are likely to get getting more modest upgrades, the Galaxy S26 Ultra version is speculated to receive some serious upgrades. According to leaks, Samsung is testing a massive 324-megapixel main camera sensor for the Galaxy S26 Ultra, up from the already impressive 200-megapixel sensor on the S25 addition to the primary sensor, the S26 Ultra is tipped to feature a 200-megapixel periscope telephoto the display front, Samsung is likely aiming to further slim the bezels — beyond the already narrow 1.52mm frame on the S25 Ultra — to create a nearly 7-inch screen experience without increasing the phone's physical rumors suggest Samsung is exploring under-display camera (UDC) tech to eliminate the punch-hole cutout, there's skepticism about whether it will be ready for mass deployment, given current limitations in selfie image quality under a of the Exynos chipset?Under the hood, the Exynos 2600 chipset could make a comeback in the S26 lineup, at least in select markets. After exclusively using Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 (or Elite) in the S25 series, Samsung is reportedly planning a return for its in-house Exynos line. The rumoured Exynos 2600 chipset, built on Samsung's advanced 2nm fabrication process, could offer a 12 per cent performance boost and 25 per cent better power efficiency compared to previous pre-production yields have already reached over 30 per cent, and mass production could begin as early as Q4 2025 — potentially making the Exynos 2600 a viable option for certain markets in the Galaxy S26 S26 Note?Adding to the speculation, there are also whispers that Samsung may rebrand the Ultra model as the Galaxy S26 Note. The Galaxy S26 Note, if real, is expected to retain the stylus with its embedded slot, although Bluetooth functionality might still be S26 series launch timelineSamsung is expected to unveil the Galaxy S26 lineup in January 2026, staying in line with its previous flagship release these rumors should be taken with some much-needed salt. Samsung is still in the early stages of developing the S26 family, and whether all these rumours will be come true is not certain.
