Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge prices leaked ahead of potential May 30 launch

Slim phones will soon make a comeback, and leading the charge will be the Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge. The phone, first teased during the Samsung Galaxy Unpacked event in early January, was initially expected to launch in mid-April. However, for reasons unknown, the phone is now rumoured to be unveiled on May 13 in South Korea via a low-key event. The first sale will reportedly take place on May 23 in South Korea and China, following pre-orders running from May 14 to May 20. advertisementAccording to a report by FNNews, the Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge will launch in the US on May 30 after its release in South Korea and China. The phone is expected to cost between $1,099 – $1,199 in the US, or 1.5 –1.63 million KRW in South Korea. Converting the US prices to Indian rupees, this translates to approximately Rs 94,000 – Rs 1,02,600. However, this is not the official pricing, as Samsung has yet to confirm any details. That said, the phone has been spotted on the BIS certification website, suggesting an imminent launch in India. Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge: Everything we know so farThe Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge was first showcased globally in January earlier this year alongside the Galaxy S25 series. The prime highlight of the S25 Edge is said to be its "slimness," with the device rumoured to be just 5.84mm thick. In comparison, the iPhone 17 Air is rumoured to be slightly slimmer at 5.5mm. Nevertheless, the difference is marginal, and with these dimensions, the S25 Edge is poised to be one of the slimmest, most feature-packed flagships yet — and the slimmest handset Samsung has ever made. advertisement To balance weight and durability, the Galaxy S25 Edge is also rumoured to feature a titanium frame, prized for its durability, lightweight nature, and scratch resistance. Thanks to leaks and rumours, we know the phone may come in three finishes: Titanium Icy Blue, Titanium Jet Black, and Titanium Silver. However, the Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge isn't just about looks, form factor, and durability. The phone is expected to be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite chip — the same SoC that powers its S25 siblings. This will reportedly be paired with 12GB RAM and at least 256GB of base storage. With such hardware, users can expect smooth and snappy performance, a hallmark of high-end Samsung devices. While everything sounds impressive, not all rumours are ideal. The rumoured 4,000mAh battery capacity, likely due to the slim form factor, raises questions about real-world endurance. Given how users push their phones — whether for watching videos, playing top-tier games, or capturing photos and videos — it will be interesting to see how the Galaxy S25 Edge holds up. Speaking of cameras, the Galaxy S25 Edge is expected to feature a dual-rear camera system, reportedly headlined by a 200-megapixel OIS sensor — the same ISOCELL HP2 sensor found in the Galaxy S25 Ultra. For selfies, expect to see a 12-megapixel front-facing all the rumoured specs and features, the Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge is poised to be the next big thing in the smartphone world. However, since Samsung has not officially confirmed these details, we recommend taking this information with a healthy dose of scepticism. Stay tuned to India Today Tech for the latest updates on the Galaxy S25 Edge.

Samsung plans to turn SmartThings devices into motion sensors – but I'm not convinced

QUICK SUMMARY Samsung has announced plans to turn its SmartThings appliances into motion sensors. With Home AI, Samsung will add ambient sensing to its SmartThings devices to learn your habits and automate activities. During the Samsung Galaxy Unpacked event, Samsung announced plans to turn its SmartThings appliances into motion sensors. With a continued focus on 'AI for All', the SmartThings ecosystem will monitor and gather insights into users' daily habits and automate activities to create a more efficient smart home experience. Samsung Galaxy Unpacked took place last week, and while the event was heavily focused on its new smartphone line-up, Samsung SmartThings users also got some exciting updates. During the event, Samsung announced its Home AI feature, and how it will add ambient sensing to its SmartThings devices and appliances. For those new to the concept, ambient sensing is a type of technology that uses sensors to detect and gather information within a specific environment. For example, using ambient sensing in your home means your devices can monitor light, temperature, movement and other habits and adjust accordingly based on these factors. With Home AI, Samsung plans for its SmartThings platform to monitor your daily habits and activities to better understand your needs. From there, SmartThings can adapt to your lifestyle and make changes to your surroundings so your smart home is more streamlined and you don't have to rely on voice assistants or apps as much. The SmartThings devices expected to act as motion sensors are its TVs, speakers and refrigerators, as these appliances already have a host of smart features. Acting as motion and sound sensors, these SmartThings devices can gather data and adjust to help you, for example, your TV can use ambient sensing to track your movements and tell you to stand up if you've been sitting for too long. Alongside Home AI, Samsung has also announced a new version of its Map View which now uses generative AI to create a personalised 3D map of your home. Users can now take photos on your phone so SmartThings can better understand your rooms and make automations more personal and natural. The concept of the SmartThings devices as sensors is definitely interesting, although I'm not completely convinced by it. While it's handy to have devices around your house that know your routines, I wonder how invasive it might get and how often the devices will make adjustments that maybe aren't needed. One thing that will make users happy is the privacy controls as Home AI is stored locally on your SmartThings hub and network. Home AI is expected to roll out 2025 and potentially in 2026 so Samsung has plenty of time to work on these updates. For more details, see how to start a smart home with Samsung SmartThings.
