Toughest jobs in the UK include firefighters, farmers and paramedics
Research carried out among 2,000 adults found the majority of people believe the UK needs to do more to recognise those who perform tough jobs Firefighters, paramedics, and farmers are ranked among the UK's toughest jobs according to a recent study, which also recognises the demanding roles of surgeons, police officers, and care workers. In addition, teachers and social workers were also noted as performing some of the most mentally exhausting work there is. The survey revealed that over two thirds of Brits think it is time we show more appreciation for those in tough positions and who, many believe, are essential to keeping the country running. They believe these heroes deserve greater accolades for enduring long hours, hazardous conditions, and frequently dealing with dangerous individuals. The study was commissioned by Samsung to launch their latest Rugged device range, which is designed to withstand the demands of challenging work environments. As part of its campaign, Samsung collaborated with TV farmer Amanda Owens to give an insight into the realities of working life on a farm: from mucking out and herding animals to operating machinery and navigating unpredictable weather. Amanda commented: "Farming isn't for the faint hearted – we're up before dawn, battling the elements, and it takes real resilience out here. In this environment, our tech needs to be just as tough – anything that can't handle water or a drop is a liability. We need something rugged on the outside, smart on the inside, that can keep up with the job." Almost half of Brits admitted they don't believe they have the resilience to take on a physically demanding role. This figure dropped to 40% among men. Meanwhile, 52% of women believe they have what it takes to handle roles that might require higher levels of emotional and mental capacity. The younger crowd seems more open to challenging work, with 61% of 18-24 year olds considering physically tough careers. This compares with just 11% of Boomers, who prefer to steer clear of jobs they'd deem tough. There's a common misconception that physically strenuous jobs don't need advanced technology; however, 90% of respondents believe that devices designed for harsh conditions are crucial for making these jobs more doable. Annika Bizon from Samsung UK & Ireland, which produces the durable Galaxy XCover7 Pro and Tab Active5 Pro Enterprise Edition, stated: "Tough roles demand robust support." She emphasised the importance of reliable technology in challenging work environments, saying, "Whether it's maintaining connectivity in the field or ensuring mission-critical tasks aren't interrupted, having the right tech in place is essential." "The Rugged range has been engineered specifically for these environments - combining military-grade durability with the business tools workforces require." Your Galaxy S25 just got beaten by a radically new smartphone from Samsung
Samsung has now officially confirmed the release of its Galaxy S25 Edge, which features a design its siblings can't beat. We've seen plus-sized phones, folding phones and mini phones. Now Samsung is back with a super skinny new device that wouldn't look out of place on a Paris catwalk. It's called the Galaxy S25 Edge, and it's been made for people who want something a little more svelte tucked in their skinny jeans. In fact, it measures in at just 5.8mm (the Galaxy S25 Ultra is 8.3mm) and it only weighs 163 grams (the Ultra is 218g). And don't worry about it breaking as Samsung is confident this wafer-thin call maker is made of tough stuff, thanks to a titanium shell and impressive Corning Gorilla Glass. Owners will also be treated to a 6.7-inch QHD+ Dynamic AMOLED screen with 120Hz refresh rate for silky-smooth scrolling. Tucked inside is a speedy Snapdragon 8 Elite processor for Galaxy (that's the same chip that powers the S25 and S25 Ultra), and there's a dual lens camera on the rear case with a 200MP wide lens for better pictures at night and pixel-packed home movies. Just like its siblings, the Edge gets Galaxy AI included, which can retouch your photos, write emails and search the web just by circling something on the screen. It also has the Now Bar and Now Brief, which show what's happening throughout the day. The Edge certainly looks impressive, especially for anyone wanting something less bulky in their pocket. Sadly, it won't come cheap with prices starting from £1,099. It also has a smaller battery inside so it may not last as long as its siblings. We'll have to wait for the reviews to arrive to find out just how long it lasts. 'Galaxy S25 Edge redefines smartphone design, with no compromise on performance. It's our slimmest S Series device yet, created with style and strength in mind. Featuring an iconic Galaxy AI-enabled camera, it opens up a world of creativity in a light, elegant form factor for customers wanting stylish design and the best features Galaxy has to offer,' said Annika Bizon, Mobile Experience VP of Product and Marketing, Samsung UK & Ireland.
