Samvidhan Park set for inauguration in June
Nagpur: The much-awaited inauguration of Preamble Park at
Nagpur University
's
Babasaheb Ambedkar College of Law
on Amravati Road is set for June. The ambitious project has been dragging on for the last eight years. The NU administration was waiting for Justice Bhushan Gavai to helm the CJI's post to invite him as the chief guest and create history. Recently, President Draupadi Murmu appointed Justice Gavai as the 52nd CJI on the recommendation of CJI Sanjiv Khanna.

Samvidhan Park
, or
Constitution Preamble Park
, was planned on the 125th birth anniversary of Babasaheb Ambedkar in 2016, and bhoomipujan was performed by then guardian minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule on the occasion of
Constitution Day
in 2019. Though no deadline was fixed to complete the project, it was assumed that the park would be open to the public while commemorating Babasaheb's next birth anniversary or on Constitution Day, whichever was earlier. The NU administration and Samvidhan Prastavika Park Samiti have planned to get the park inaugurated by SC Judge Bhushan Gavai after he becomes CJI on May 14.
Replicas of the Supreme Court and Parliament, along with a 7.5 ft statue of Babasaheb Ambedkar, an amphitheatre, and murals adorn the park. The aesthetic gate and compound wall are nearly completed. Former registrar Puran Meshram, a member of the Samvidhan Prastavika Park Samiti, said it will be inaugurated in June by the CJI. "We have requested revenue minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule to sanction Rs55 lakh from DPDC and social welfare department funds for erecting a screening to run audio-visuals on the Constitution and Preamble," he said.
Meshram said the 10-crore park would be a historical achievement where people will celebrate the Constitution and its makers. "A seating arrangement for 200 people has been made. Social functions can be held in the evening hours there," he said.
