Navy technician charged with making a false bomb threat on a Hawaiian Airlines flight

A Navy technician was arrested on charges of making a false bomb threat while he was on a Hawaiian Airlines flight, authorities said. Electronics Technician 1st Class John Stea, 35, was arrested and charged with making a false bomb threat and false report of a security threat. San Diego Harbor Police allege in a news release that Stea told a flight attendant on Hawaii Airlines Flight 15 that the passenger next to him had a bomb as the flight was getting ready to depart. The flight attendant told the captain about the potential threat, police said. "Harbor Police reminds the public that maliciously reporting a false bomb threat is against the law and can result in fines and up to one year incarceration in county jail or state prison if convicted," police said. The incident happened as the plane was about to leave San Diego International Airport for Honolulu, prompting the plane to taxi to a safe location and a search of the aircraft. The nearly 300 people onboard were deplaned and transported by bus to a secure area, police said. The aircraft and all luggage were eventually cleared. "The safety of the public and our personnel is of utmost importance to the Navy. We take all threats seriously and are cooperating fully with local and federal authorities," Lt. Mohammad N. Issa, deputy public affairs officer, Commander, U.S. 3rd Fleet, said in a statement. This article was originally published on

California Plane Evacuated After Bomb Threat

Israa Farhan Authorities in California evacuated a Hawaiian Airlines aircraft and detained a passenger following reports of a possible bomb threat just before takeoff at San Diego International Airport on Monday morning. The Airbus A330, operating Hawaiian Airlines Flight 15 and bound for Honolulu, had just pushed back from the gate around 8:45 AM when a flight attendant informed the pilot that a passenger had made a statement suggesting a potential bomb on board. The pilot immediately contacted local authorities, prompting a rapid response from the San Diego Harbor Police, FBI agents, and a SWAT team. The aircraft was thoroughly searched, but no suspicious items were found, and officials later confirmed there was no actual threat to passengers or crew. According to a statement from Hawaiian Airlines, a passenger had made a verbal threat involving the aircraft's safety. The crew followed all safety protocols and notified law enforcement out of an abundance of caution. San Diego Harbor Police spokesperson Brianne Mundy Page confirmed a suspect was taken into custody. While the identity and possible charges have not yet been released, officials indicated more information will be shared soon. All 293 passengers on board were safely evacuated and transported by bus to a secure location within the airport. Hawaiian Airlines stated it is working to rebook passengers and ensure they reach Honolulu as quickly as possible. The airline thanked its crew for their professionalism and care during the incident and reaffirmed its commitment to passenger safety and preparedness in emergency scenarios. read more Gold prices rise, 21 Karat at EGP 3685 NATO's Role in Israeli-Palestinian Conflict US Expresses 'Strong Opposition' to New Turkish Military Operation in Syria Shoukry Meets Director-General of FAO Lavrov: confrontation bet. nuclear powers must be avoided News Iran Summons French Ambassador over Foreign Minister Remarks News Aboul Gheit Condemns Israeli Escalation in West Bank News Greek PM: Athens Plays Key Role in Improving Energy Security in Region News One Person Injured in Explosion at Ukrainian Embassy in Madrid News Egypt confirms denial of airspace access to US B-52 bombers News Ayat Khaddoura's Final Video Captures Bombardment of Beit Lahia News Australia Fines Telegram $600,000 Over Terrorism, Child Abuse Content Arts & Culture Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban's $4.7M LA Home Burglarized Sports Former Al Zamalek Player Ibrahim Shika Passes away after Long Battle with Cancer Sports Neymar Announced for Brazil's Preliminary List for 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers News Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly Inaugurates Two Indian Companies Arts & Culture New Archaeological Discovery from 26th Dynasty Uncovered in Karnak Temple Business Fear & Greed Index Plummets to Lowest Level Ever Recorded amid Global Trade War Arts & Culture Zahi Hawass: Claims of Columns Beneath the Pyramid of Khafre Are Lies
