Pune police announce traffic changes for Bakrid

Pune city police's traffic control branch has announced road closures and traffic changes for Eid al-Adha, also known as Bakrid, which is observed as a festival of sacrifice and will be marked on Saturday (June 7). While namaz prayers are offered in mosques and Eidgah grounds across the city, the main event will be held at the Eidgah at Golibar Maidan. These changes will be enforced from 6 am on the day of Bakrid and will remain in force till the time namaz prayers are completed. The changes will not be applicable for on-duty government vehicles and vehicles involved in emergency services, including ambulances, fire tenders, police and military vehicles etc. The namaz prayers at Golibar Maidan will commence around 6 am and for that, roads connecting Mammadevi Chowk, Golibar Maidan and Seven Loves Chowk will be closed for vehicular traffic. The notification for traffic changes and diversions in this regard were issued by Deputy Commissioner of Police Sandeep Bhajibhakre on Thursday. The closed access roads and alternate routes are as follows: Traffic from Bhairoba Nala to Golibar Maidan will be closed. Heavy vehicles going towards Swargate will be diverted via Prince of Wales Road and light vehicles going to Pune Station will be diverted by Empress Garden Chowk. Road from Mammadevi Chowk to Golibar Maidan will be closed. Alternate routes have been earmarked via Bishop School or Command Hospital or Napier Road. Traffic from CDO Square to Golibar Chowk will be completely closed from 6 am to 11 am. Vehicles coming from Lullanagar will be diverted via CDO Chowk. Road from Seven Loves Chowk to Golibar Maidan will be closed. These vehicles will take the route via Salisbury Park, CDO Chowk and Bhairoba Nala. Road connecting Old Solapur Bazar Chowky and Golibar Maidan will be closed. Vehicles coming from Khane Maruti Chowk will be routed via Pulgate Depot, Solapur Bazar Chowk, Napier Road and Khatav Bungalow. The road from Lullanagar to Golibar Maidan will be closed for heavy goods vehicles, private buses, PMPML and MSRTC buses. These vehicles will be diverted via Bhairoba Nala Chowk or Gangadham Chowk. Officials said that namaz prayers will be held across the city at various Eidgah Grounds.
