Five-day music and dance festival begins
The five-day music and dance festival organised by Karnataka State Dr. Gangubai Hangal Music and Performing Arts University, commenced here on Tuesday.
The festival, SNA Fellows and Awardees Festival of Music and Dance, is being held in association with Sangeet Natak Akademi, New Delhi, at Vigyana Bhavan auditorium, Manasagangotri campus, the University of Mysore. It will conclude on May 3.
The organisers said that the festival has been curated by Sandhya Purecha, chairman of the Sangeeth Natak Akademi, and Nagesh V. Bettakore, Vice-Chancellor of the music varsity.
The combined efforts of the two institutions reflect their commitment towards the preservation, promotion, and propagation of India's classical heritage, the organisers said. 'The collaboration stands as a testament to the shared mission of nurturing India's cultural identity, fostering artistic exchange, and inspiring future generations through the performing arts,' the organisers added.
Apoorva G. Murthy, faculty at the Department of Dance, said that the festival is set against the culturally rich backdrop of Mysuru, and it will offer audience an extraordinary opportunity to witness and learn from the nation's most revered artists – individuals who have dedicated their lives to the pursuit of excellence in music and dance.
The music and dance sessions are held from 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. daily.
