Three children among four dead in Ranchi and Khunti

Ranchi: Four people, including three children, were killed in separate rain-related incidents in Ranchi and Khunti districts in the last 24 hours. While a 10-year-old girl died on Thursday when her house collapsed due to continuous rainfall in Tamar area, a 35-year-old school teacher, who was a native of Dhanbad, is feared dead as he got swept away in the Jonha falls, about 45 km away from Ranchi, situated on the Ranchi-Purulia highway. The 10-year-old girl has been identified as Sanjyoti, a native of Murpa village in Ranchi's Tamar area. The authorities sent her body for post-mortem, and the process to pay compensation to her family was also initiated. The teacher has been identified as Michael Ghosh. "The teacher from Delhi Public School, Ranchi, went to the falls along with his two colleagues. The group went to the upper side of the falls to click selfies when Michael was swept away by a strong current. He is feared dead. The police have been searching for his body," Angara police station in-charge Hiralal Shah told TOI. The police officer said that the other members of the group are safe, and Michael's vehicle was recovered from the spot. In Khunti, Hanni Purty (9) and Ashish Topno (10), who were playing near a newly constructed well, got buried when its wall collapsed in Somwar Bazaar under Murhu PS limits on Wednesday afternoon. NDRF managed to retrieve their bodies on Thursday following the launch of operation on Wednesday night. Khunti sub-divisional police officer Varun Rajwar said, "The bodies were recovered after 22-hour operation. They autopsy has been conducted." Another official said that a compensation of Rs 4 lakh each would be given to the affected families. In another incident on Thursday, a youth identified as Raj Kumar Majhi (19) was killed when a mud wall collapsed on him at Didhma village under Torpa PS. He was repairing a house of his relative when the incident occurred. Majhi was rushed to a private hospital where he succumbed to injuries. Separately, NDRF successfully rescued six workers who were trapped on an under-construction bridge over Karkari river in Arki PS area in Khunti district.
