Oji opens fifth manufacturing facility in India's Sri City
Oji India Packaging, part of Japan's Oji Group, has launched its fifth manufacturing facility in Sri City, which is located in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh. This new plant, which is said to be the largest of its type in South Asia, will focus on producing corrugated boxes and packaging materials, offering eco-friendly and high-quality solutions for the local market. Covering an area of 43,000m², the facility aims to meet the rising demand for corrugated packaging in the region. The plant will start with 130 employees, with plans to grow its workforce to 300 over time. The facility's opening ceremony was attended by Oji Holdings president and CEO Hiroyuki Isono, Japan's consul general Muneo Takahashi, and Sri City founder and managing director Ravindra Sannareddy. Sannareddy commended Oji India for choosing Sri City, noting that the company is the 31st Japanese company to set up operations within the Sri City Special Economic Zone. Isono highlighted the plant's role in advancing sustainable packaging and driving regional economic development. He also emphasised Sri City's significance in strengthening Indo-Japanese business relations, referring to it as India's second-largest Japanese township. Oji India is known for supplying its heavy-duty packaging products to various sectors. With existing plants in Rajasthan, Gujarat, Punjab, and Tamil Nadu, this new facility complements the company's global strategy and contributes to India's industrial growth. Sannareddy was quoted by various media agencies as saying: 'Their [the company's] presence will enhance supply chain efficiency and cater to the packaging needs of existing industries. We are proud to welcome yet another global leader to our thriving manufacturing hub.' In February last year, Shirako chose Oji Group's paper products for its 'Sumapura' seaweed packaging.
