Punjab livestock dept to provide 7,000 bikes on easy instalments
LAHORE: The Punjab Livestock & Dairy Development Department (PLDDD) on Tuesday launched an initiative aimed at providing 7,000 motorcycles on easy monthly installments without any interest to the para-veterinary staff of the department to resolve their issue of transportation. First batch of motorbikes were distributed among the employees at a ceremony held at the livestock department on Tuesday. Provincial Minister for Livestock and Agriculture Syed Ashiq Hussain Kirmani participated as the chief guest. On this occasion, Secretary Livestock Punjab Saqib Ali Ateel, along with Additional Secretary (Technical), Director Generals, and other officials of the department were also present. Director General Extension, Dr Muhammad Ashraf, welcomed all the distinguished guests. While addressing the ceremony, Provincial Minister Syed Ashiq Hussain Kirmani stated that Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif generously approved funds to meet the transportation and motorcycle needs of the para-vets. Through this initiative, they will be able to obtain motorcycles on interest-free, easy monthly installments. He said that para-vets play a vital role in providing timely vaccination and care to livestock owned by farmers in remote areas. He further noted that, for the first time in history, the Chief Minister allocated Rs20 billion for the livestock department in her government's first budget last year. The provincial minister added that a total of 7,000 motorbikes will be provided to the para-veterinary staff in two phases, with 3,412 motorbikes being distributed in the first phase today. The design of the motorbikes was developed in consultation with the para-vets. He emphasized that these new bikes will enhance the operational capacity of the livestock department. He expressed confidence that, with the provision of new motorbikes, para-vets will deliver services to livestock farmers with even greater dedication. Outstanding performers among the para-vets will also be rewarded. Earlier, Secretary Livestock Punjab Saqib Ali Ateel said that para-vets are our frontline force, and addressing their issues is a top priority. He stated that a departmental structure has been developed for institutional betterment, which will provide training facilities and ensure timely promotions for employees. Punjab govt provides machines for animals' ultrasound
LAHORE: The Punjab government has provided machines for ultrasound of animals making diagnoses of diseases easier. Provincial Minister for Livestock and Agriculture Syed Ashiq Hussain Kirmani inaugurated an ultrasound machine at the Veterinary Hospital Khanewal. The provincial minister, while addressing the gathering, stated that modern technology is the top priority for better services to livestock farmers. Ultrasound machines in veterinary hospitals will make it possible to diagnose diseases in livestock on time. He endorsed that they are ensuring the use of modern technology to increase the productivity of milk and meat. The provincial minister for livestock further explained that the return of funds from the initiatives of the Chief Minister of Punjab from across the province is encouraging, Pakistani livestock will be promoted worldwide. Secretary for Livestock Saqib Ali Ateel said farmers are being provided with high-quality semen at cheap prices for better meat and milk, the livestock department has been shifted to a paperless system, internships are being given to 1,000 unemployed youth, and the movement of livestock teams is being monitored for the treatment of animals. Punjab proposes Rs12bn for CM's livestock programme
LAHORE: The Punjab Livestock and Dairy Development Department (L&DDD) has proposed a budgetary allocation of approximately Rs 12 billion for three major initiatives under the chief minister's livestock programme. These initiatives include herd transformation to enhance livestock productivity, a new internship programme within the livestock department and the establishment of a foot-and-mouth disease (FMD) free zone with vaccination in district Bahawalnagar. These projects will be launched following formal approval by Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif from next fiscal. This was revealed during a high-level meeting of the Livestock Department where discussions covered the Livestock Card scheme, distribution of livestock assets among rural women, and proposals for upcoming projects. Secretary Livestock Punjab, Saqib Ali Ateel also attended the meeting. Addressing the meeting, Punjab Minister for Livestock Syed Ashiq Hussain Kirmani stated that livestock farmers who have availed loans under the 'livestock farmer card' scheme will qualify for the next phase provided they repay their current loans within the designated timeframe of April 15 to May 15. He added that significant funding is being earmarked in the upcoming fiscal year's budget for livestock sector development projects. These initiatives aim to uplift livestock farmers economically and improve overall sector performance. The Minister further announced that Phase II of the livestock card initiative will run for six months, during which 300,000 animals will be distributed to farmers. Applications will be accepted from May 15 to June 15, and the Urban Unit will carry out physical verifications between June 9 and July 10. The first instalment of loans under Phase II will be disbursed starting July 15, and all newly distributed animals will be tagged for tracking purposes. He also confirmed that, under Phase I, 5,500 animals have already been distributed among rural women across 12 districts of South Punjab. Minister Kirmani also highlighted the launch of the Punjab Livestock CONNECT App, which will serve stakeholders including slaughterhouses, meat exporters, fattening farms, and farmers under the livestock card scheme. Through the app, users can submit complaints, access information on livestock financing and diseases, and provide feedback. He stressed that livestock divisional and district directors, along with additional directors, must update the app's data every three months - warning that any negligence in this duty will not be tolerated. The meeting was also attended by Additional Secretary Livestock Usman Tahir, Directors General of Extension, Production, and Research (Livestock), along with representatives from the Bank of Punjab, Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB), and Urban Unit.
