Online court database brings changes to Pitt County
GREENVILLE, N.C (WNCT)- The Pitt County Courthouse officially transitioned to using eCourts to make all court filings online. The transition will allow people to easily access court documents, court dates, and pay any fees or fines.
This now makes 73 out of the 100 counties in North Carolina who decided to use eCourts in their court systems.
The online database also makes it easier for attorneys to take care of their court filings as well. Things like filing all their pleadings will be accepted online, but wills are going to be processed in a handwritten format.
Pitt County Clerk of Court Sara Beth Fulford Rhodes said the change was something the courthouse had plans to do since 2020. Things officially materialized in 2023 after surrounding counties had successful pilot programs.
'Well, before COVID-19, we were having these conversations statewide and certainly with the legislature and all our partners and they were searching for the right software company to join forces with,' she said. 'I think with COVID-19 that we kind of saw the need.'
With the eCourts transition, the Pitt County Courthouse opening hour also changes to 8:30 a.m. instead of 8 a.m.
